New Here

I just joined last night. My GYN doctor did some out-patient surgery and then had me go for blood work a day later after the surgery. They called me and said I had anemia. Well, yesterday, I woke up and thought someone had punched me in my ribs on both sides. It hurt to breathe. I feel a bit better today, but I was reading that may be from the anemia. This board has been wonderful! Yesterday I had to go and get my Ferron level and Hemoglobin levels done. I guess I will find out in a few days what they are. I was diagnosed with Chron's Disease just a few months ago. I am wondering if that is causing the anemia. I have to take Asacol 3x a day and was never anemic before. Thank you in advance for your help.

Gwen

Re: New Here

The rib pain you are describing can be from anemia or it can be from tensing muscles during an unpleasant or nervous experience. Crohn's disease can cause anemia because of bloody diarrhea caused by the intestinal problems. Any blood loss even a trace can over time cause anemia under the right circumstances. There are many drugs that are necessary for treatment of disease or conditions, that have side effects of anemia, even if temporary. I hope you will feel better soon.
