scope question????

I have had UC for almost 20 years now. I'm 42 years old and currently have soem bleeding and D. It is controlable with heavey use of antiD.
I saw my gtstro dr yesterday.
He wants to do a scope (entire) every 2 years! I think that is a bit excessive. I went 7+ year without meds even before the last flare up.
Dang, i feel if i can hit that state called remission i could go another 7 years with out meds again.
Is 2 years between colon scopes the norm? Have others out there went med free and had sucess?

I'm sure lots have but I'm not one of them. When I was first diagnosed with CD they couldn't get it under control with asacol and high doses of IV prednisone so they added imuran. Things finally settled down and the GI I had at the time said if my crohns stayed in remission for 5 years I could come off the imuran. Then about a year after this we moved and I saw a new GI. He did a colonoscopy and it was good so he took me off all my meds and I've been battling it again since. What meds do they usually put you on in a flare?

Is this med for UC? I looked it up and it said some thing about Kidnet transplants and such. YEAKS

I was 1st dio with UC about 20 years ago. I went into remission for around 7-8years. Then, I had a flareup then.
2nd major flare up was another 7 years after that.
The last one has lasted about 20 or so months. Darn, I think the dr may be wanting me to be sick so I'll keep coming back!

Imuran is an immuno-suppressing drug. I believe it was first made for chemo patients. I know its a strong ugly drug but I would take it over prednisone any day.
