Shaving and Red Marks

I have several red marks on my lower cheeks and jaws.
In most of these red marks I have hairs growing out.
I haven't completely shaved in a long time.
I usually just trim what facial hair I have up.
Now my question is.
I don't remember having as many redmarks when I use to shave regularly.
and since August I have been using Tretinoin.
So would it be best to shave completly more often?
Would that help the effectiveness of the cream?
