Some Success. Question about Zinc

Hi,

I've been dealing with moderate body acne for 7 years now (Im 27). I've tried many if not all of the natural cures out there and none have really worked. I took minocycline and tetracycline for facial acne when I was younger and both of them stopped working at one point or another and it's my personal belief that they somehow contributed to my acne mutating to my body from my face. In any event, for the past 5 years I've been keeping my body acne manageable by using Carly's clear and smooth and not lifting weights. But barely manageable. The Carly's helps but the acne is still 'there' eager to come out and play if I get too little sleep, eat really badly for a while, have too much fun drinking, start lifting weights again etc... In any event, one of the things I never tried properly was taking Omega 3's. I've been taking 4000-5000mg of Omega 3 fish oil capsules for not even one week and I've definetely noticed a change in my skin. Its way softer, more flush, less irritated, and the pimples that are showing up this week (which is already fewer than usual) are all tiny compared to the medium to large sized bumps that usually form. I also added some neem pills to the mix two days ago for a little more kick. The verdict is still out on whether or not they're helping. Since one of the things the omega 3 is said to help with is somehow regulating hormones, I've now considered looking into the Zinc option as well because it supposedly also helps in this domain. I remember trying it a few years ago, but Im not sure I ever bought the right brand as I know I've read that some forms of zinc do work and others dont. Can anybody who was kind enough to read my post let me know of which kind of zinc I should use (is it zinc citrate?) and/or whether or not zinc helped them with their acne? I'd really appeciate it.

Re: Some Success. Question about Zinc

I have been taking Zinc Picolinate and have had some success. I would recommend using zinc picolinate because it has the best absorption percentage. It really helps w/oilyness and the size of the pimple forming. It didn't clear me completely, but in combinaton w/ topicals it has kept my acne managable.I hope this helps!

It's possible because antibiotics can cause a candida imbalance and acne can be one of the symptoms. You might try probiotics too.

I took 50 mgs of whatever the form of zinc comes in the typical multi or Walgreen's brands vitamins along with Saw Palmetto and my skin got alot less oily and I no longer got acne on my face. Then I cut back on sugars and my skin is clear. That's the simplified version. I take other supplements like a multi, fish oil and probiotics, and have switched things around, but those are the things that really caused a noticable change when I started them. But I believe it's always a combination of things.

Re: Some Success. Question about Zinc

Hi again,

Thanks for your answers. I bought some Zinc picolinate and started taking it 2 days ago. The dose is 50 mgs and I take a copper supplement to go along with it (2 mgs). I'm just wondering if its coincidental that since I started taking it I've had 2 headaches and my energy levels are slightly higher than normal (I'm usually a pretty fatigued kind of guy). I read that headaches can be a side effect of too much zinc but thought I was pretty safe at 50 mgs. Also, can this mineral actually be giving me energy? If the headaches persist I will have to lower my dosage, which means buying a whole new bottle of pills. Did you guys have any side effects? On the acne front: Its too early to tell if zinc has done anything but the omega 3 fish oils have been clearing me more and more..
Thanks for any answers,

AL

Re: Some Success. Question about Zinc

Bump.

Hi again, I'm also wondering if 1. There's an initial breakout with zinc? 2. If its normal for my skin to be more dry due to the zinc? I never had oily facial skin, I'm taking the zinc for body acne so I'll deal with dryer skin if it will clear me but...hope thats not all it will do. So far I'm still clearing up very well. On the Omega 3's and Zinc and waiting to see if it will last or not.
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

AL
