Need experiences with inflammatory drugs- side effects

I just started on my 3rd anti-inflammatory drug and am feeling like a walking zombie taking it. It is the first one that has not given me stomach problems but it makes me extremely tired and messes with my vision. For the first 3 hours after taking it I feel horrible. It is voltaren which is an older drug but according to my rhematologist worth a try. Do any of you experience such side effects with any of the anti-inflammatories and is it to be expected? Kinda have to weigh out which is worse........the pain or feeling like yuck!

Re: Need experiences with inflammatory drugs- side effects

Grana,

I have been on multiple anti-inflammatories in the last 20 yrs (I'm 45). The switches have been due to after time they just stop working. Anyway, I have been on Lodine for about 4 yrs now & am pleased with it with no side effects. When I had my scope on my knee in June my Ortho put me on Voltaren & I gave it a shot. Well, it just made everything worse...my pain level increased & of course I was agrivated. I was on it 1 wk & through it away but, I did not have the effects that you described.

I also took Voltaren, Lodeine, Naproxen and now Arthrotec. All of them so far have had some not so desirable side effects. The Arthrotec will also protect your stomach from damage due to the anti inflammatory meds. Just remember that all medications work differently for each person. It's kind of like a lock and key mechanism.

Re: Need experiences with inflammatory drugs- side effects

Hi Everyone,

I have used different anti inflammatory drugs, but not very many. I can not take Methotrexate, because I have too many sores. I take Relafen/Nabumetone (dont know if it is a anti inflammatory) and no side effects. I take Prednisone (I know it is a steriod, but one of the few things that work) and no side effects. Also, 2 more that are not anti inflammatory drugs: Ultram/Tramadol (a light pain med,) no side effects and Skelaxin (a muscle relaxer that is expensive, but does help).

All of my RA drugs are bad for my liver and my spleen and of course my stomach!!! :<

Hope you can find the right one(s) for you.

Wannabe
