Someone's Expertise on Ace's

Hi Everyone:

As you probably have read before I am taking clonidine .01 mg/5 per day. It is the only thing that somewhat controls my bp. I have been on so many drugs with side effects it is unreal. I am so sensitive to drugs.

I am trying the Ace's ( Zestril, Monopril) believe it or not it is effecting my bladder and lower back pain. I know it is not an infection because I have done a course of antibiotics with no difference. The irritation and pain did not go away until I discontinued the medicine. My dr. thought maybe it was a fluke with Zestril and I tried the Monopril...same thing.

My question is would it be worth trying another Ace such as Altace or do you think because these two meds gave me the same problem this entire class of drugs will? The Arb's did me similiar but not as bad. I just didn't get as good of bp control with them. Diruretics make my heart go crazy and I can't handle beta blockers.

I thought about asking for Verapamil if you feel I should forget about the Ace's.

Any thoughts on this? I am getting so paranoid about calling my dr and asking for different meds I'm sure they think I'm crazy but I can't help these side effects. I wish I was different. I am at my wits end trying to achieve bp control. My bp is all over the board.

Re: Someone's Expertise on Ace's

Hi,

I have been taking Lisinopril (an Ace Inhibitor) for about 3 years, with no siide affects that you are experiencing.

I must tell you everyone experiences different reactions or side affects to medicines. I suggest rather than check on this board, it's about time you maybe should be seeking a different doctor to see what he can offer. Obviously your present doctor isn't responsive to your problem.

EE,

To repeat another posting I did a minute ago to editor , ACE inhibitors can do some weird things. If you are SURE that the monopril is causing it I would bet that any ACEI would do the same thing. Do you COUGH?

Give the verapamil a shot.

(You hated diuretics, right?)

Re: Someone's Expertise on Ace's

Thanks for replying Lenin. Always look to you for good advice.

Yes, I couldn't handle the diruetics. Made my heart race real bad. No I am not getting the cough on the Ace's. I don't know how long you have to be on them to start that side effect. It has only been a couple of weeks for me. I hate going off of them because they seem to be helping my bp.

Does the Verapamil have alot of bad side effects? Is it as bad as a beta blocker because I know it does slow the heart rate a little.
