That's not actually true, and you shouldn't be telling women that. BCP is not as safe as it's told to be, there are far too many side effects to be considered truely safe.
You can try the herbal methods first, things like Dong Quai or Vitex. Also, magnesium and zinc are well known to help with cramps and bleeding.
After some very intense research into the birth control pills, I personally don't advise them purely for period issues. All the pill does is mask the actual problem and supress natural mentstruation in any woman who takes it. It does not regulate your period, it completely supresses your ovaries the entire time you are on it. The only reason why you have a period while on the pill is because your body is experiencing a withdrawal bleed from the week of placebo pills.
You should research the pill for yourself before you decide to use it. But I personally advise looking into nutritional supplements and herbals before trying the pill. In the long run, they are safer.
