What has one thing got to do with the other? Taking bcp doesn;t make you not a virgin. And that's the only thing that will help with your periods. Talk to your gyno and get solid information.

That's not actually true, and you shouldn't be telling women that. BCP is not as safe as it's told to be, there are far too many side effects to be considered truely safe.

You can try the herbal methods first, things like Dong Quai or Vitex. Also, magnesium and zinc are well known to help with cramps and bleeding.

After some very intense research into the birth control pills, I personally don't advise them purely for period issues. All the pill does is mask the actual problem and supress natural mentstruation in any woman who takes it. It does not regulate your period, it completely supresses your ovaries the entire time you are on it. The only reason why you have a period while on the pill is because your body is experiencing a withdrawal bleed from the week of placebo pills.

You should research the pill for yourself before you decide to use it. But I personally advise looking into nutritional supplements and herbals before trying the pill. In the long run, they are safer.

Re: Want Some Info About Starting Bc

Just my opinion here, but I think that unless you are having serious pain and problems with your periods, taking BCP just for the sake of possibly having shorter periods doesn't sound like a good reason.

BCP has side effects that women are willing to tolerate because they outweigh the risks of not taking them. Since pregnancy isn't an issue for you, the main benefit of BCP is wasted so you're taking all the risk (and expense, if you have to pay for it yourself) for potentially no gain. Hardly seems logical.

Also, what do your co-workers have to do with this? And why are they pushing you to start the pill? Seems weird.

Re: Want Some Info About Starting Bc

I agree with Thisby. I started taking birth control before I married my husband and I was a virgin. My major reason was my period was a three week ordeal and I knew that wasn't normal. I have tried some natural/herbal remedies, but they really didn't help. I made my decision to go on birth control after talking to my gyno and my then fiance. I would advise talking to your gyno and checking into other alternatives before going on birth control. Co-workers left out of all.
