Re: Hi everyone

Hello, I just wanted to say that my hubby was on Carboplatin and Gemzar to begin with and eventually went in and out of remission. He went through 5 lines of chemo/drugs. The last time he went into remission was in June 2006 and he was on Carboplatin and Gemzar again after almost a year's absence and to that they had added Avastin. I still believe that the Avastin made him go into remission again. But in Sept the cancer was found in his bones, although his primary lung tumor still showed signs fo shrinkage and basically in remission. So, the Avastin helped the lung tumor, but did not stop the bone mets. I hope this helps in some way. So sad that your daughter is experiencing this tragedy. I will keep you in my prayers....

Re: Hi everyone

Hello,
My mom was also just diagnosed last week with nsclc. Adenocarcinoma. It is stage IV and is in both lungs and also spread to the brain. She is undergoing radiation for two small brain tumors and chemo for the rest. I can't give much advice or really tell you how it is going even since this is so new to us all and so unexpected. But I will keep you in my thoughts and try to update as my mom finishes treatment. I have heard of Avastin. What is it? Is it a pill or IV medication? How is your daughter doing with it? I want to go with my mom when she gets her next chemo treatment and ask about different treatment options in case she is unresponsive to the chemo.

Re: Hi everyone

Hi
I was just diagnosed on the 4th with Stage IV NSCLC. I have 2 tumors in my right lung and at least one large brain tumor with a couple of tiny (possible) mets in my brain. So I'm just starting this journey, and have no idea about the chemo yet. I do like to know ahead of time what's going to happen though, so am definetly interested in all these drugs. THey told me the one in the brain is treated with surgery & radiation, then chemo for the lung (every 3 weeks) so sounds like what your daughter is having for chemo.
I can't help much with answers & questions right now, but hope to be back here soon after surgery.
It's a scary disease really, but this place is a godsend.
God Bless.
Faith

Re: Hi everyone

When my daughter took chemo she just got a little sore and upset stomach. They gave her pills to take care of that. With the avastin she doesn't have any reaction to that. Her body can't tolerate the chemo. Her plates go way down, so they took her off. What worries me is with out chem how long before it starts taking off other places. I believe I am going to like it here. I need to talk to others with the same problem. talk to you soon
