what happens if

I have been taking valium for 40 years. I as my dad and his mom have familiar. tremor and like they did take meds for it 40 years ago my doctor put me on valium My dad and his Mom were on secondal but that was pre valium.I have always taken 5 mg 4 x a day and very rarely any more then that. That drug really changed my life ie I could hold a cup of coffee with out shaking ect.My head would also shake. We moved to FL two years ago and to find a doc to give me this was trying. I did find one and for two years no problem but he is now switching me to clonopian sp .25 mg three times a day along with the valium and I am decressing the valium and now on two a day.He told me clonopian was better and stayed in the system longer but from what I have read on this board that is not true. I don't want to make waves with him since he will give me my life as I have know it for 40 years but how can I tell him he is wrong? I remember all to well what life was like for me as a teen and I refuse to feel that way again so I will never stop this medication. Should I just let him do his thing and say nothing?????

Re: what happens if

Hello

Just wanted to share my thoughts with you. I don't have any clue about which path with the meds is correct for you. I am tapering an addiction to oxycodone and not even sure what is right for me!

However, concerning the doctor. You do have a right to refuse! Every time I see the psychiatrist, he tries to change my meds for anxiety and depression. I refuse. Nicely, but I refuse. I am sure that he sometimes gets disgusted with me, but because those meds are not my problem and seem to be working, I don't want any change at this point.

Have you told him he is upsetting you? Have you explained your reasons?

Please try. you may be surprised at his reaction and I sesriously doubt he will throw you out!

Post and let us know what happens.

Re: what happens if

Try searching Dr Heather Ashton + manual. She might have the info your looking for as far as benzos. Print it out and bring it to your dr. See what he has to say about it and then go from there. Most time to get off the short acting bezos like xanas or klonopin they switch to valium that has a longer life. So do your research be well educated and have a discussion with your Dr about your concerns. Make sure you dont come across like he is wrong cause that might cause a problem most Dr's think they know everything there is to know and dont keep up on alot of new medical updates. My personal opinion. Just keep it positive and address your research and your concerns. Kim

Re: what happens if

Thank you both for replying.Over the months of reading this board I have read some of the Ashton method. I hate to even show him that because he will think I want to stop taking each of these two drugs and that will not do.He does want me to stop valium and go to the klonopin but I even wonder if he knows that .25 klonopin is a higher does then the 5 mg valium. He just has his mind set on this course of action.I hate to try and find another doctor since I have already been through this two years ago after moving. I told my husband lets move back to Ca I never had this problem there.

Re: what happens if

You dont have to bring him the taper just the information. It might even help him with other patients. I would just check it out and see what it says. Kim
