Angry Burning tongue, lips, palate

I have severe burning of tongue, lips and palate started around July. Sometimes so bad I cannot even eat. I got dentures in June and was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in July, had thyroid removed in September and radioactive iodine. We thought it was a yeast infection and I did a nystatin rinse. It was ok until 2 days after I stopped medicine and started again. Tried Difucan and it was fine for 1 week after stopping med and started again. Getting more severe. We can't seem to determine why - dentist says allergies to dental materials are rare and doesn't think that is it. No visible evidence of yeast yet on meds I felt better and burning stopped. Anyone with dentures or thyroid problems experience this? Don't know what to do next. Thanks everyone and HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Re: Burning tongue, lips, palate

Sorry, I have not experienced this but wanted to say that I sympathize with you and hope that it gets better soon. Have you checked the side effects of some of your medications? There are many medications that will produce side effects similar to these.

Best wishes,
Amanda

Re: Burning tongue, lips, palate

Thanks Amanda. My only med is Levoxyl for thyroid and I'm pretty sure that is not a side effect. Guess I'll just keep bouncing back and forth between docs until someone can come up with something. Thanks for responding. Happy New Year to all!

Re: Burning tongue, lips, palate

could it be a bacterial infection? Maybe an anit-biotic would help?

Not sure - will ask dentist/doc next week. I am on antibiotics now for something else and still having symptoms. Thanks for your help. Happy New Year to all.
