racing heartbeat

lately it seems i can constantly feel my heart beating in my chest when im quiet and sitting or laying down. I have had times when i wake up during the night with my heart racing so much it scares me. I donot get shortness of breath and i do work out for fourty five mins five days week with no problems at all. Can this be due to perimenopause which i am in..or can any types of food trigger this I take an aspiring a day, synthroid and tenormin. They lowered my tenormin dose when i lost thirty pounds. I have gained it back but the dose remains the same..could this be the culprit? I had a cardiolite stress test last Feb and all was fine. Any ideas?

Re: racing heartbeat

When I am anemic, my pulse rate can go over 100, and when I lay down at night I have to lay on my back because my heart is pounding so hard.

Have you felt fatigued lately? It could also be low B12 causing it. Many medications deplete our B12 supply, which, if left unchecked can turn into anemia.

The only way to know is to get a blood workup. A CBC and a B12 test. ASk them to throw in Iron (Ferritin) and Folic Acid levels as well.

If it is anemia, it could be as simple as taking a vitamin with iron in it.

Best,
Jill

Re: racing heartbeat

The worse its been while racing is 92. When i was at the drs they said it was 120. The past two days its been normal..65 or so. Im waiting on my holter monitor results. Im concerned with those because i had a bad argument with myhusband when i had the monitor on and myheart raced and i got palpitations. So this concerns me as to how it will read out. I also lately have been getting a now and gain pain on the left side of my body lower side of abdomen but it feelslike a muscle type pain. Tonight while on phone fora few seconds i had this weird feeling go from below my shoulders down to my pelvis area.Never felt anything like that..no shortness of breathe or anyother pain. So ill wait for my blood work and monitor results. I also take Tenormin and i had missed doses often.

Re: racing heartbeat

92 actually isn't racing. In fact, 92 is within the range of a normal resting heart rate. It's interesting that you perceive that as racing. In any case, hormonal changes can absolutely cause heartbeat sensations, palpitations, and a feeling of pounding, or fast heartrate. So can thyroid imbalances.
