anyone heard of new miracle treatment for LC?

Hi,
My dad was diagnosed with NSCLC 16 months ago. He has it in both lungs. He is 70 years old and continues to smoke!!! He is on his 2nd round of chemo and has one more treatment left. I was over at his house today and my mom and him were watching TV and said they saw a news program that said there is a new treatment for lung cancer that cures 90% of patients!!! Now my mom is mostly deaf and my dad was in the dining room eating lunch, so I don't know if they heard wrong or not. I looked around for some info on the web, but found none. If it is true, then I would expect it to be MAJOR news considering lung cancer is the leading cause of death. Did anyone else hear about this? If so, what is the deal with it? It would certianly be an answer to so many prayers if it is true. I know they are using a new chemo treatment on my dad that doesn't cause hardly any of the horrible side effects the first round did, mainly fatigue and weakness. None of the nausea, neuropathy, loss of taste, or hair loss. In fact he's gained so much weight we are sort of concerned about that! I don't know how effective the treatment has been. We will find out after his last treatment, they will do a CT scan to see if the cancer is still there or what. The last treatment knocked out the cancer, but it grew back within 5 months. Which is common with this cancer. If anyone has heard about this, please post and let us all know about what good things are to come.
God Bless,
Cyndi

Re: anyone heard of new miracle treatment for LC?

I have not heard of a miracle drug.My daughter is on a new drug that came out in October of 2006 It's called azd6244 powder. She is on her second week. It has little side effects. It's a liquid that you mix up. There is also a iv. that you do every three weeks. They put you in a hat(so to speak) and draw to see if you take the liquid or the iv. You take this twice a day. We will find out when she has a pet scan to see if it is doing any good. This new drug doesn't heal you from the cancer. It put you in stable condition.that is what they want to do. Let me know if there is another one out there. Talk to you soon

Does your daughter have NCLC or is it SCLC? Interesting...thanks for sharing.
I hope it keeps your daughter stable and gives her some quality!

Re: anyone heard of new miracle treatment for LC?

Hi- Best regards to you and family. I am not aware of any type of miracle drug. I do know that there have been advancements in treatment. Currently, I am participating in a clinical trial at Sloan-Kettering. I have not had any side effects and I'm hoping that this one works this time. No side effects... now that's a miracle drug!!!
I wish you well. Tom
