Soo Tired...NOT CFS

Some background: I was diagnosed with ADD when i was about 8 yrs old, i am now 20. I was on Concerta from 10th grade until May of 2006.

Ever since i went off, i have been so tired all the time. I'm pretty sure the concerta just covered the fatigue though...

My blood tests show everything is normal and my thyroid is normal.

If i am doing physical activity (especially outdoors...like skiing), the fatigue disappears. Working out in the gym...it goes away a little, but comes back once im done working out (i dont work out regularly).

This is really affecting every part of my life: im too tired to be social, so i am losing friends, too tired to do school work so my academics are suffering...etc etc.

Any herbs/alternative methods to treat this would be greatly appreciated...or any ideas of what could be causing this would be fantastic to hear!!

THanks!

Re: Soo Tired...NOT CFS

Hi Snix. I am sorry you are so tired, I know it is frustrating. Have you been checked for Mono also?

Regarding your thyroid, I suggest you get copies of your results and post them on the thyroid board for interpretation. The people there are very nice. Realize that even if your results are normal, they may not be optimal for you. Some people have a thyroid disorder with normal test results.

How is your diet? What you eat can really impact energy levels. You may want to see a nutritionist for an eating plan tailored to your needs.

Don't give up, you will find out what is wrong.

Re: Soo Tired...NOT CFS

Snix, wish I had something more than my support to offer. As someone who suffered years ago from CFS, I can certainly agree that you don't have that. I did google Concerta before responding to your post. One med info page listed your symptoms as being normal and said that the expected duration would depend on how long you had been taking the drug. You took it for a lot of years. So perhaps your body is just taking a longer time to normalize. If your doctor isn't giving you satisfactory information, call your pharmacist. It's his job to have the latest and most up-to-date information on medications he sells. He will likely be more than willing to share his knowledge with you.

Also, you might want to post your question again in the ADD section of the HealthBoards. You're more likely to find someone there with the answer you need. Good luck.

Re: Soo Tired...NOT CFS

thank you both

Ticker - i dont have mono, i got tested already

my diet definately can be kind of random, but since may i have basically cut out foods with too many chemicals (i occasionally will eat crap, but its just when i am offered it - like on a monthly basis...i dont buy it) I drink soy milk mainly every other day.

For breakfast i normally have a piece of fruit or 2, or sometimes yogurt. Ill normally have soy milk or OJ with that

lunch - lately its been PBJ, but i use the Ezekial Sprouted bread with organic PB and jam from trader joes (so it doesnt have high fructose corn syrup in it)

dinner:baby spinach salad with onions, carrots & tomato w/low fat dressing (once again, NO HFCS!)

I usually will have some soy ice cream as dessert, or maybe popcorn (no hydrogenated oils in the stuff i buy!), somtimes triscuits w/cheese

Another common dinner for me is pasta (i try to eat whole wheat, but i am also trying to get rid of the white pasta i have) w/some canned tomato sauce

If anything, my diet is most likely lacking protein...i have a rice protein powder for days i feel i am definately not getting enough. I really dont keep good track though.

oh, i also have an abundance of water throughout the day, and i dont drink pop or coffee, i have tea occasionally though.
