starting proactive

alright so i just ordered my first thing of proactive. Im really scared its another hoax and im just wasting my money. My acne isnt bad at all compared to some, but its still depressing, and lowers my self esteem. so i hope this works..im going to be very committed and use the whole thing before i start thinking of something new. any thing i should know. ?

Re: starting proactive

I have heard similar stories from people on this board. Some have stated that their skin has become "addicted" to Proactive and that when they stop using it they breakout. I am trying to ween myself off of it. I am using a mild cleanser, Proactive's toner and repairing lotion...and hope that I won't breakout worse than I am right now (which I am still not happy with...but am taking Spironolactone for...hopefully it will work). In regards to Proactive, sometimes it works, but it hasn't really for me, and many people on this board. And, I have had several skin specialists (facialists, derm.) that have said that proactive is very harsh for a lot of people. But, you have already ordered it, and I don't think it would be harmful to use one kit. If your not satisfied don't use it.

Re: starting proactive

I was on proactive for about 5-6 months and it helped more than anything else I tried. I stopped because it wasn't working as well as I wanted. I didn't get any post-breakout or anything after stopping. I would have sworn by this stuff for a while, but then it sort of lost its effect on me.

Re: starting proactive

I was also afraid that Proactive was an expensive 'hoax'.. but I've used it for 3-4 months now, and it has done wonders for my skin. I am prone to chin acne from small zits to painful under-the-skin nodules. And it cleared them up well. It (each pack) also lasts for quite a long time.
However, I'm now in the 4th month, and have been experiencing one painful spot after another for a three weeks now.. I am afraid that I'm becoming immune to it..(?) I thought you could only become immune to antibiotic acne meds.. not BP based ones (?) Can someone advise?
