Protonix dosage...........

Trying to collect information to get better educated about people's experiences on their doses & changes of.

Seems some started at 40mg 2x/day; others then decreased to 40 mg lx/day.

Think I read one that said she was taking 20 mg 2x/day.

Can you tell me what dose you started at; how long before you changed, if you did & what dose you're on now. Also how long have you been taking this?

I know we're all different, but just wanting to research a little more that may give me some clues.

I was on Protonix 2 different times. The first time, it was 40mg 1x per day 30-60 minutes before breakfast. The next time, it was the same but with Zantac at bedtime (which evolved into Zantac 4x) per day...
So, for me, Protonix (and actually none of the PPIs) gave me relief but I just wanted to share the dosages the different doc's (one was a GI specialist...the other the ENT specialist) put me on.

I was originally put on Protonix 40 mg 1x daily...then my doctor started giving me generic protonix called Omaprazole (Prilosec OTC) 20 mg 1x daily. You know I never really looked at the dosage until just now. I have been experiencing really bad chest pain....I wounder if the dosage isn't strong enough. I need to research this...thanks for the post it has opened my eyes to the dosage amount I am on.

Or, maybe the "generic" is not strong enough. I've had that happen with another RX. Generic is the cheaper one, so most Dr.'s want you to take them to reduce costs to patients, but more to please the insurance companies.
