Can't decide...GB related- again : )
I've seen all the GB posts, actually been reading them for quite a while now...Thank you for this amazing group-you've actually assited in the tests that I've received.
HIDA scan in Nov- 10 % ejection of the GB...did a repeat in Jan...they never did the CCK because it took 2.5 hours to visualize the GB...I guess they figured it's just not functioning well.
US-no stones
colonoscopy-mild ulcerastive colitis, some proctitis
endoscopy-nothing
Surgeon says take it out ( I'm scheduled for 3/26)
2 GI MD's say there isn't a guarantee that my symtoms will go away once it's removed.
SUrgeon says 90 % sure that symtoms will go away.
My symptoms are just general malaise at times, nausea, terrible bloating, and this feeling that there is a brick in the center of my stomach.
The reason I hesistate to do this is because it's not all the time...it's a couple of times during the week . Usually it only lasts for a day, although last month it was about 3 days of feeling crappy.
All things started last Dec ( 2005)...woke up one day with nausea, bloating, etc...lasted about 2 weeks...never felt the same since...
When I feel good, I feel great, and I can't believe I'm even thinking of getting it out. When I feel badly, I feel so badly that i could call the surgeon and do it that same day!!
THe thing is I am so afraid, as I'm noticing, is a common feeling, of things getting worse after...
I'm a mother of 4 small children, and I really can't afford to have life-altering issues because I took out my GB.
I know this has been asked a million times, but I would love to hear some thoughts.
Anyone with a low HIDA etc...removed GB , had the symptoms go away- AND feel good???
I am sick of feeling crappy, but honestly, if removing the GB is going to make things worse, or add something else, I'll keep it...
I know it's impossible to determine that, but I'm trying to make the best decision...if that's even possible....
Thanks for listening...
Jane

Re: Can't decide...GB related- again : )
jfem, this is exactly how i am feeling. When i'm good i'm great, but look out when i'm not. some days i just don't get out of bed. But with 4 kids, that's a priveledge i know you don't have.
i am scheduled for surgery next tuesday, and i think i'm looking forward to it.
i have been feeling this way since around june and let me tell you it has only gotton worse. more bad days then good. since nov. i never know from day to day what i will feel like.
I have even gone to an endrocronologist (sp) last week to have test done on adrenal glands to see if that could be a problem. taking tests tomorrow for that, but i guess that's another story. Hopefully it is all from the gb. my hida showed 19% but no stones.
I think from what others have said we will be much better after getting rid of these lousy gbs. i will keep you in my thoughts which will be easy as march 26th is my 42nd anniversary.
I'll let you know how things go for me, ok?
take care, stars

Stars,
Thank you for responding...actually when I read your message and story, I couldn't beleive how similar it was to mine/me...
I think I'm looking forward to the surgery, but today I feel good, so I'm doubting that I need it.
TOmorrow could very wellbe a different story.
PLEASE let me know how the surgery goes...I hope all the symptoms go away for you!!!
Thanks,
Jane

Re: Can't decide...GB related- again : )
STARS13, let me know how the tests on the adrenal glands go. That's another thing I had thought about causing my illness. All of mine started about 8 months ago. We went to Key West. (I didn't eat anything in Key West). Got sick while there, and from then on it was downhill. I would get better, then get sick, better, sick -- went to cardiologist because of heart palps, all tests came back okay. This had gone on, I was losing weight (30 pounds) and very concerned. Then the nausea kicked in almost every single day. I insisted on HIDA scan. Came back showing 7% gallbladder function. Just had it out this past Monday. Today is a good day. I feel pretty good, sore, but I feel good. I guess I won't know until it's been a few weeks, but I'm glad I had it out. The surgeon said my gallbladder was "twisted" and that is why it was not functioning. I had reached a point I wanted them to take something out to get me well. Hopefully this was it. I don't regret having it out.

Re: Can't decide...GB related- again : )
Lady, that's me too. sick better sick better. did the cardiologist too, a few yrs ago. stress test and all. all is fine but did change bp meds and got rid of chest pain.
had soooo many tests done in last 5 yrs. ct scans , sonograms, tons of blood work evertthing was fine. went back to gastro doc and he of course ordered more tests, colonoscopy which was fine, endoscopy which i had last tue. and have not recieved any news but am sure that is fine too.
only test that showed a problem was hida scan as i've said before. so i am also hoping for good results from surgery but just in case i wanted to get things started with endo doc. don't know what i'm hoping for, i just want to feel well again. the last 8 months have been pretty bad.
take care...... stars
