H Pylori triple therapy

Hey everyone;
I have been sick for 3yrs...chronic nause, excessive gas, insomnia, bloating, just general malaise with the nausea as the primary disturbance. I was finally tested for h pylori and the test came back positive. They have prescribed a triple therapy... 2 antibiotics and one pill for the stomach. Does anyone have feed back for me before i start this course of treatment. I'm a 41 year old female from Canada. Thanks adogaboo

Re: H Pylori triple therapy

I was also diagnosed with the H Pylori virus, and was put on 2 antibiotics, but only for 7 days. Everything I have read on this says triple therapy and for about 14 days. I asked my GI doctor why not 14 days, and he said 7 days would work -- well, I don't think it did. But it is true to treat that infection requires triple therapy -- one is the PPI I believe with the 2 antibiotics. I'm allergic to almost everything, so he put me on Tetracycline and Cipro. But again, I don't think he had me on it long enough.

Re: H Pylori triple therapy

I had h pylori two years ago and had very similar symptoms. When you take the treatment, make sure you take it at the same time every day. I took my morning dose at 7 a.m. and my evening dose at 7 p.m. sharp. You want a constant flow of medication to attack it so that it doesn't get a stronghold. You can also take masitic gum (do an internet search) and Manuka Honey (again, do an internet search) to further treat the problem. I got retested a month after I finished the medication to make sure it was gone. You won't be able to have a blood test done because it will always show positive now that you have the antibodies in your system. The only way to test is a breath test or to have an endoscopy where they take samples of your stomach and have them biopsied.

Good Luck!

Re: H Pylori triple therapy

Hi. I was also diagnosed with H-Pylori this past summer. I never knew I had it until I went for an endoscopy for other issues. The gastro put me on PREVPAC - which is prevacid, biaxcin and amoxicillin - for about 2 weeks.

Funny thing is that I brought my chihuahua to the vet several months ago for itching and I mentioned how bad his breath was. The vet sniffed it and said it was like sewer breath (my words exactly) and that my dog had h-pylori.

I told him that it was quite a coincidence because I had h-pylori too. He then asked me how long my gastro put me on atibiotics - I said about 2 weeks - and he said it should be more like 3 months! Then he told me that EVERYBODY has h-pylori and he gave me a bottle of pills called MASTICA GUM (a form of pistachio tree from Greece - and the Greeks use it as a natural remedy for gastric upsets and h-pylori). Go figure that!

Needless to say - my dog had the full 3 month course and his bad breath went away. I personally don't feel any different since my treatment, but I suppose it's better NOT to have h-pylori due to the link between that and ulcers.

Good luck!
