What are your thoughts?

Has anyone ever tried turning their birth control into the morning after pill?
I was looking on Planned Parenthood's site, and they have a list of BC that can be used as the morning after pill:

What are your thoughts on this? Do you think it would be just as effective? Has anyone ever tried it?

I have never done it, but I know two women who have- one sucessfully (well, no kiddo), and one without sucess. The thing that both of them agreed on was the sickness from it- taking that much horomone, in that form, made them both feel very ill for a day or so.

Re: What are your thoughts?

Since the morning after pill is just a much higher concentration of the basic ingredients in regular birth control pills, it is logical that it would work to use them this way. Planned Parenthood makes this available because ECP isn't available everywhere, while regular birth control pills usually are.

I would suggest that if you have access to real ECP, that you take that, because the amounts are exact (according to approved medical testing). With the substitution list, they're giving you the closest equivalent. And I would still trust it.

NO. do not let a doctor tell you to do this, or do it by yourself. it is NOT the same. i wnet to my doctor a couple years ago asking for the morning after pill. she gave me a pack of ortho-novum and told me to take 2, then 2 some hours later, then 2 a few hours later again. after only 4 pills i became violently ill and vomitted like 4 times. i had taken the true morning after pill before this, and had experienced no side effects.

Re: What are your thoughts?

A lot of women vomit after taking real ECP too, so I wouldn't necessarily blame it on the method, maybe it was just that particular brand.
As I said earlier, if you have a choice, take the real thing, but many women don't have a choice, so I wouldn't be trying to dissuade them from using this completely acceptable alternate method.

(Also, taking 2, then 2, then 2 is not the way it's recommended, women should check the chart.)
