Byetta Feedback?

My Endo gave me some information on Byetta, and we are looking to start that later this week, but I was just looking for some real world experiences with it - only because, even with the insurance coverage, it is $50 a month for the co-pay, and when you add that into all the other meds for diabetes, hypothyroid, on and on... I am sure you all know how it is - things become very expensive.

Has anyone been using this and have experiences to share good or bad?

Thanks much!

Re: Byetta Feedback?

I've been using Byetta for about 3 weeks now, and I've definitely gotten my blood sugar numbers in control again. Before, even with glucophage, micronase and etc. every day, I was jumping all over the boards with numbers as high as 300's! Now, I'm doing about 95-115 in the morning and 115-140 at night.

Your post was in March, I see. Any feedback on it, now that you've been using it for a while?

Re: Byetta Feedback?

Thanks for the feedback Mike! I actually joined in March, but just posted that yesterday, and they gave me the first pen today so I am looking forward to seeing how it works for me - I will let you know though as I have high hopes it may help stabilize my numbers.
I was also recently diagnosed as hypothyroid, and since starting thyroid replacement meds, I have seen a huge impact on my ability to control my sugars - hopefully the Byetta will further lower the post meal spikes, and morning numbers.

Thanks again!

Re: Byetta Feedback?

Good luck with your Byetta Amie. I must say also that I've experienced some hiccups as well as constipation recently. I don't know if those are side effects of Byetta. I started taking it while in the middle of a bad cold. I'm nearly over the cold now.

Last night, I came home after a day of very little eating and my numbers were down to 63! Had to gulp down some cereal and milk because I was cold and shaking.

I think everyone who takes Byetta might go through a few weeks where their bodies adjust to it. Let me know how you're doing and we'll compare notes.

Unhappy Re: Byetta Feedback?

I have been on Byetta since Thanksgiving 2006. It had done wonders for my blood sugars. However, the side effects are AWFUL!!!!!! I experienced nausea and vomiting all the time. After the first month when I moved up to the 10 mg it got even worse. The doctor put me back down to 5 mg. I did lose weight as well though. There's a new injectible that's due to be out in a month or so that I'm going to try.
