Daytrana?

My son was dx ADHD and was prescribed Strattera and Daytrana. Today was the first day on the patch....his school called me and told me they have never seen him act the way he did today. Said it was like he was having a major sensory overload, throwing chairs, constant talking. Very thirsty, would only eat 1 cracker at snacktime. Crying for me when it was time to come home.

I took it off and didn't put on the second patch for the day, I'm waiting for his Dr. to return my call. Is this something normal or am I just freaking out?

Thanks!

Re: Daytrana?

oh my...........that's awful. i have never heard of the Daytrana, but i wouldn't keep it on him either. my son was on Strattera, and it didn't have THAT affect on him, actually.....it seemed to work good for about a couple of weeks, then nothing. Then we have discovered that he is BP, which is basically almost the same symptoms of ADHD. He's on the Abilify.

Good luck to you!! and i hope you find the right medication soon!!
I know, along with many others, it can be a very long road before getting the right ones.

take care

Re: Daytrana?

hi, yes my 8 year old son is showing all kinds of side effects, he gets dark circles under his eyes, looks really sad and worried, and weepy(otherwise, he is really loud, talkative, full of jokes, humer, and laughter) becomes extremely quite and motionless, gets really hot, and constantly takes deep breaths, totally loses his appetite, does a lot of twitching and makes humming sounds all the time, among other things, but with all these side effects the patch is not even helping him be more focused.....it doesnt help him with his attention deficit or anything come to think of it, if anything, it makes him spaced out and disoriented.
what was the dosage for your son? because my son was taking the 10 mg patches, but i started cutting the patches a little smaller so that it wont be too much for him. and he has been on it for two months now, i take it off immediately when he comes home, and i dont use it on weekends and hollidays!

Re: Daytrana?

I would cease the Daytrana and look into another medication.. those side effects are too extreme to be considered safe.

Sincerely,
MG
