the truth about anal fissures

ok...getting a little panicky here...a fellow poster pointed out that few (maybe zero) chronic anal fissure heal on their own....if I have to have surgery I guess I need to know that...I've done quite a bit of research on the web, studies, etc...and find mixed results. So the question is: has ANYONE ever healed their chronic anal fissure WITHOUT surgery? thanks, Lynn

Re: the truth about anal fissures

I never had something like that that developed to a severe level, but I found that one of the best cures for all of this, is to not strain at the toilet to get regular. It takes practice and an effort to solve this, because it's not natural for a lot of us to live this way. Aloe vera also helps the healing. Some of us don't need surgery or creams or any of that. We just need to do better. Changing a diet for some will also help to reduce the straining and so forth.

It's kind of interesting, that some of the best information comes from people on the internet, that you may not find at a doctor's office. When the problem becomes severe or chronic, then of course, it's that time to see the doctor. But try to stop it before becomes a problem.

Talking Re: the truth about anal fissures

Hi Lynn, I have had my AF for almost a year now. The last month has been pain free. For the first time in almost a year... a truely gruesome year at that!
I searched day and night on the web for 'something' that would resonate with me in the way of a cure . I tried all the perscription meds. I then tried chinese medicine, homopathy, wheat grass cream... heck I'd have stuck fried eggs on my bum if I'd have though it would help
Then one day about 2 months ago I read about folk who had cures from anti fungal creams.... like you use for Thrush or Jock itch. I get thrush from time to time and also get cracks in the corners of my mouth that I can cure over night with anti fungal cream...Well... to get to the point I started using the cream in and on my anus ( using a cotton bud) and am now painfree for the first time in almost a year. I am beside by self with joy!! It took about two days for me to notice a difference. I've had a couple of stumbles backwards.... I'm still really nervous each morning when I have my BM. I'm still drinking a couple of litres of water a day and watching my diet but I found 'my' cure ( well fingers... and toes are crossed anyway). This may not be your cure but I believe we can help our bodies heal themselves from this horrid horrid disorder! I was too scared to risk the surgery and as others have said many people seem to get the fissures again anyway.... now I'm so glad I didn't get cut! Although I acknowledge it works for some people. I hope you find your cure too! Keep searching!

Re: the truth about anal fissures

that's really interesting as I've come across other references to AF's being linked to the use of antibiotics. Antibiotics kill off good bacteria, leading to fungal problems....so this would make sense to some degree. I'm curious if it burned at all...seems like it would. thanks!

No it didn't burn at all... in fact quite the opposite.
