hyposdrenalism

Dear all,

i had a short synathen test which indicated i had hypoadrenalism. i think i had been in a crisis because i kept having blackouts seizures hypos faints. went to hospital they gave me three iv drips . of hc saline and floucortisone. then the diabetes specislists! ha reduced dose next day to 20 mg i started feeling lousy again. i have had medical health problems for a long time and had to keep coming to hospital she just didn't believe me.my adrenal glands should make it up to 500 mine only reached 200. however my morning cortisol was ok. stilll waiting an acth test. i still didn't feel well coming out of hospital but was mega stressed in there. ok now get this i have been sent home with three days to ween off hcortisone. they said the steriod for asthma may have induced it i had two oral pred at ten mil!!!!! and i have been having these symptons for ages also pain in my left side above my adrenal gland. i think i still may have an infection thats been brewing it was a gut infection. i said to them so what am i meant to do when i come of the hc and get bad again luckily i knicked the supply for more from my medical cabinet. if i have an adrenal crash again i cant go back to her i was really confused and passing out when getting my symptons but was looked at like i was mad. should i come of the hc or give it a bit of time to feel better. im getting a second opinion. i am at my wits end. i have only been on meds for a week. the diabetes doctor discharged me at first telling me i had to be on it for life and now is taking me off it. im also wondering whether i have got cushings disease. i had low blood pressure before the hc.

someone please help

Re: hyposdrenalism

Zoe:
If you have low cortisol, you could go into an Addison's crisis and die. Even if you do have the adrenal problem because of asthma medication, you still need the extra cortisol. Sometimes you can wean off of it slowly with time if your adrenals starts to kick in again, but sometimes you can't. It seems to me that they are taking a terrible chance taking you off the cortisol. Get to another doctor, fast! Get an ACTH stimulation test to find out if your adrenal glands are working. Then have a full workup of your thyroid and growth hormone levels. My problem was pituitary failure, and it took several doctors and me thinking I was dying (loss of 30 pounds, blood sugar crashes, low blood pressure, dehydration, nausea, vomiting) before I finally stumbled across a doctor who knew what he was doing. You need help, girl! Stand up for yourself and get it before it's too late!

Re: hyposdrenalism

hey Zoe, I'm sorry to hear what you are going through, the medical system can be such a stressful thing. I just had a question for you, did the cortisol they gave you help you with the fainting/blackouts? i'm going through the exact same thing but they wrote me off as having neuro cardio syncope, even though they also diagnosed me with hypopituitarism. Did the cortisol relieve that weak/dizzy/confusion feeling?

Re: hyposdrenalism

Holy cow, 83snyder -- they diagnosed you with hypopituitarism and they aren't replacing your adrenal hormones? That is pretty crazy. Did they test you for adrenal insufficiency? They should also test your thyroid and your growth hormone level. I have hypotpituitarism and all of those hormones are being replaced. Sounds like your doctor isn't very much on top of things, especially if you are passing out. Do you have other symptoms of adrenal insufficiency (low blood pressure, low blood sugar, dehydration, nausea, vomiting, weight loss)? Good luck with getting it all sorted out.
