Dry, red patches of skin covered in white heads?

I am 27 and this started about 2 years ago. Up until this my skin was awesome. I have always taken great care of my skin because my mom taught me about the importance of good skin care at a young age.

I have these dry, red, patches of white heads on both sides of my chin. They do not itch, but they are scaly and get darker after long periods in the sun, excessive movement, etc. I have tried tons of things...topical medications, changing every product I use on and around my face, changing my detergent, birth control, etc. The problem I have is that everything made to remove whiteheads is too overpowering for the dry skin. My dermatologist said it's adult acne, which I understand, but these weird scaly patches that on only the sides of my chin and nowhere else? I can't find this particular problem on the internet anywhere!

When this started I tried everything I could think of, did what the dermatologist prescribed me and/or told me what to do, but after 6 months of nasty looking skin I gave up and found a vitamin e oil that moisturizes the areas enough to put makeup on it. At this point I want to find an overall cure instead of getting by because I know the oil is helping me out in the short run, but making it worse in the long run.

Help??

Have you tried Benzoyl Peroxide? Make sure to get it at 2.5%.

Re: Dry, red patches of skin covered in white heads?

Perhaps you are putting too much on the area, BP can be harsh for some. I use Differin each night and thought if I put a dab of BP on a problem area (side of chin) it would double attack it. Well....I burnt the skin, red, swollen, and cracking. bad bad....now I just use the Differin and then apply a good cream over it.
The chin is a big problem for many women, apparently it's hormonal which makes it very hard to keep under control.
I'd give the derm another shot with something that isn't so harsh and keeping the skin well moisturized. Perhaps antibiotics? I'm also using Minocycline and it seems to be working well in combination with the Differin.
