Nova Ring - Whats the story? Good/Bad/Ugly?

I haven't heard much on the Nova Ring on this Board. Is that because it works great and so no one has anything to write? My friend mentioned that she hasn't had a single side effect, been on it three months.

Any endorsements? Concerns?

Re: Nova Ring - Whats the story? Good/Bad/Ugly?

I have been on the NuvaRing since January, and it has been working ok for me. My periods are shorter, which worried me at first, now I am just enjoying it. The first 3 months I had horrible mood swings, but after that, everything started calming down, and now I am having no problems with it. The reason I started it was to control my periods, and the NuvaRing had the least amount of hormones, which is good for me, because I do get migraines, and I am at a higher risk for stroke. They said that the NuvaRing was the best option, rather than Provera (not birth control), which was always causing me to have mood swings. It just depends on what you are looking for.

My doc just gave me the nuva ring also. I won't start it until next week but he said that after the first month of getting used to it, he has heard good things. So I am hoping it will work for me!

Re: Nova Ring - Whats the story? Good/Bad/Ugly?

I didn't have a very good experience on Nuva Ring. The first month was perfectly fine but with the 2nd and 3rd months I experienced 75% more acne, spotting and breast pain. Maybe if I stayed on it longer all of that might have cleared up, but I had to stop using it. I just couldn't take all the side effects. I'm sure everyone's situation is different. I've had much better success with the pill (Estrostep).

Re: Nova Ring - Whats the story? Good/Bad/Ugly?

I had a pretty bad experience with NuvaRing -- such that I really only had it in for two weeks, so maybe I'm not a reliable resource since the side effects could have gone away if I had waited, I don't know.

I experienced an episode of MAJOR depression literally three days after I put the ring in. And, I had trouble with it popping out during sex (I know it's not supposed to; maybe I was doing something wrong).

Like I said, I had it in for a very short period of time. Sorry I can't say anything good about it! I wish it had worked!

EDIT: The depression for me was too awful to bear, but it does sound like sometimes if you wait a bit that stuff clears up on its own
