My son is now 9 months old and I am still breastfeeding, just about 3 times a day (morning, afternoon nap, and before I put him to bed at night). My dr. wanted to put me on either Klonopin or Ativan for anxiety but said that they're not safe with breastfeeding. We discussed this when he was about 6-7 months old and I was still breastfeeding on a more consistent basis. Anyways, I was wondering if there is anyone out there that started taking meds once their child got older. I know that these drugs stay in your system at least 6 hours, and I figure I could breastfeed him right before taking them and not doing it again until the drug would pretty much be out of my system. I don't want to jeopardize the health of my son, but I also need to start feeling "normal" again.
I am at a loss anymore, I barely eat and I have just been having insane chest pressure. I am moving on Friday and I know a lot of this has to do with making a change in my life but no matter how much I try to tell myself that everything is fine it just doesn't work! I suffered from anxiety 4 years ago and was put on Zoloft 150 mg, Neurotin 200 mg, propranolol 10mg 3x a day, and Ativan .5 mg as needed. I waited until it got really bad before and wound up taking all these meds. I just need something every now and then.
If anyone has dealt with having to take meds while breastfeeding please reply because I would really like to hear how it went for you. Thanks!
