Re: Kd

I liked the general surgeon and he explained that his role was small compared to the oncologist. The oncologist will be "in charge" of my treatment. I have an appt. monday, june 11 at 2:45 to meet the oncologist I selected from a group. Will update you again when more is know.
My surgeon did confirm stage 1 and he does practice the sentinal node method which I was very glad to find out. He said based on a chart that he showed me that my tumor has probably been growing for about 7 years. It can't be detected on mammogram till it gets to about 1.3cm to 1.5cm and mine is at 1.5. Unless it's located in a area where you can feel it the mammogram will not show it. I thought that was very interesting. All of my test from the biopsy were not available yet; like the hormone receptor test and another one called HER??.
Thank you for you and others support. Will update monday or tuesday with more info. I do have to take alot of blood test and chest x ray, ekg, pregnancy test!(hope it's negative at my age of 53!!) and whatever tests the oncologist adds. So next week I guess I"ll be at the lab doing these test.
happy trails,
kd

Re: Kd

Glad you liked the dr. I had stage 2 and was estrogen positive...I really don't know about the HER. Am sure others on the board will know more. My oncologist is wonderful and is so upbeat. He just recently had colon cancer. I think you will find so many kind and understanding medical people through this journey. Try to have some fun tomorrow and relax, if you can. It's like a whirlwind the next week, but I wanted to get on with it. Keep me posted. Good luck.

Re: Kd

Hi Kd, the hormone receptor test and her2 test may help to determine what your treatment options are. Her2 promotes the growth of cancer cells, they
may tend to be more aggressive cancers, but there are treatments.

I was er+pr-her2-...so I have taken tamoxifen (pre-menopausal at the time of dx) and after hysterectomy(post menopausal) I was switched to an Aromatose Inhibitor, which I take now..called arimidex.
You will be getting alot of info from your drs..bring a friend to help you get the info.., or a pad and pen to write it all down! and of course, let us know how things are going, okay?
hugs, cj.

Hi Jeezie, How are you? Its great that you have an Onc. that you feel good about..Im kinda at odds with mine right now, I hope we can work it out, cause I think he is really a nice man..hes just way too busy..
hugs,
cj.

Re: Kd

Hey gals. my surgery is going to be this Monday at 2pm. keep those good thoughts and prayers coming. Don't know about chemo yet until after the surgery and the pathology comes back; about a 4-5 day wait. my oncologist is good; very intelligent and speaks on my level; not real warm and fuzzy though; but that's okay. My next appt. with him is 6/25. He said my hormone receptor and Her2 were negative so I'm not a candidate for horomone therapy.

I do have another question> what type of bra can I were after surgery when I return to work? I am full busted so I will have to wear something. Also when I start radiation can I wear a bra. I have to have radiation for 5 days a week for 6 weeks.
thanks ya'll,
kd
