Yasmin & Minocycline, and no Spiro prescription

I went to the doctor and she wouldn't prescribe me Spiro because she says it hasn't been used for a long period of time and thus, she didn't want to take the risk of me going on it just for oily skin. (i've got super, super oily skin). She told me just to use blotting papers for the oiliness.
I was just on doxycycline but it (ergg) went effective a month ago (worked for around 8 months) so the minocycline is for my acne. (I have "serious" acne but not a lot of it- occasional cyst). So Yasmin has 25mg Spiro- and I read an article that it settles problems with oily skin and hair...can anyone confirm this? I really am in dire need of ONE med to reduce any oil production.

So I have to stick with these meds (and I'm on tazorac cream) for 3 months! She's like don't come back the next week, you've got to try it out because it takes a while to work. But I'm thinking if in 3 months my oily skin problem (b/c I know the antibiotic will help my acne, doxy worked wonders, but will do zilch for my oiliness) isn't settled, I'm going back to ask for Spiro.

Can someone take BCP + Antibiotic + Sprio? is this safe?

I'm really hoping Yasmin will help!

Oh and one more thing: I did get a blood test, I don't know what for, but I did get one.

Yes-- I was taking bcp, Minocycline, and Spiro together. After about 2 months though, I dropped the antibiotic because I didnt need it anymore. Just curious-- what are you using to wash your face with? Are you using a moisturizer? Do you wear much makeup?

yipee so it might be an option for me down the line.

Believe me, I've tried just about everything for my oily skin. I never use to wear make-up up until around 1 month ago and make-up does some help, but after a few hours, whoosh oily skin comes through.

I'm washing my face with cetaphil gentle cleanser, but I've tried so many things before, plexion, proactiv, olay, biore, neutrogena, lancome etc etc...

I do use moisturizer, an oil-free, non-comedo one, but even before I started using moisturizer, same issue with oily skin.

Brr it sucks!

well...it sounds like you're doing everything right! I asked about facewashing, because i've heard that overwashing can cause oil. If you do get Spiro...it will DEFINITELY help with oil. My skin has always been normal/dry and Spiro has made it even dryer Great for someone with oily skin though. I used to have very oily hair-- by the end of the day, it looked flat and greasy Now, I can go 2 days without washing my hair (if I'm feeling really lazy), and my hair looks normal.

ahhhh now you're just making me jealous! I want SPIRO! lol

As for the face-washing thing, yea I hear you on that point.

I used to be a total freak obsessing over washing every inch of my face, -which didn't help the oil- but now I wash it normally, and...no help either. yikes
