Hi, My first response sounded really flaming, and I apologize for that. I shouldn't have been so harsh. Perhaps because I've lost a couple of friends who wouldn't quit smoking - cancer, emphasemia and other lung complications, I just over-react.
I still believe what I've said: Your partner's asthma will continue to get worse if he does not quit smoking. There is no medication that can counteract what the patient will not do to cooperate. And the stronger meds are very dangerous to use continuously. He is also endangering his life, and causing you a lot of hurt. There are so many new meds out to help people quit smoking - please get his friends and family to help you help him to stop destroying his airways and lungs.
It is almost impossible to overcome an addiction, but if it's threatening your life, isn't that worth pulling out all the stops? Perhaps get him to read some of these boards - there are also online support groups for people trying to quit smoking.
Sorry for the flame earlier - really, truly sorry. I've been having so much tightness and discomfort this past week, I reacted very badly. My best to you both, Susan
