Hypocol vs. WelChol

I will be getting my bloodwork redone in July and even with trying very hard to change my dietary ways, I have a feeling that my numbers will not change much. Does anyone have an opinion regarding taking say WelChol vs. a mild statin like RYR (Hypocol)? Or maybe take both.

I do not want to take a statin ever unless absolutely necessary. I have taken RYR in the past but did not stick with it long enough and I was not sure of the quality. With the WelChol they state that it's not for people with bowel blockage or people that have trouble swallowing. What does that mean?
I have a small throat and sometimes choke if I do not chew my food good enough but does that mean "trouble swallowing"? I can tolerate the 6 pills a day.

RYR is a weak statin (lovastatin) that is available over the counter..it works in the liver exactly the way that a very small dose of Liptor (atorvastatin) does.

Welchol is a bile sequestrant that prevents the cholesterol rich bile from being reabsorbed by the liver and thus passes a lot of cholesterol out with the feces. These bile sequestrants are only available Rx in the U.S. ANy problems with this drug will likely be harmless diarrhea and maybe some cramping.

Yes, they will work well together.

Trouble with the RYR though, there are NO legal requirements for standardized dosage, safety, efficacy, etc...you may be getting an empty placebo. It's strictly "let the buyer beware."

I remember the bile sequestrant years ago that you had to mix with a liquid. You could not take any other meds around the same time as you took this.It was in powder form. You seldom hear about these anymore since statins are the more prescribed.
