Just quit the pill after 20 years.....

Hi!! Well, the time has come to stop the pill because I'm 40. I'm actually happy about it, hubby took care of the BC part. It's been a week since I quit and I am super moody. I'm not sure if it's because of the pill or because we're just starting to build a house. I find my self crying a little, cranky, just plain 'ol mopy!! Does any of this sound familiar to any of you? Plus, I feel like I'm gaining weight. Oh, the headaches too. I must be so much fun to be around right now!!

Any thoughts?

Re: Just quit the pill after 20 years.....

Hi I was on the pill for a little over 17 years and quit in early Feb. I just got back from the doc and had an IUD inserted. The first 2-3 weeks I didn't really have "headaches" but I felt very irritable and really out of it and spacey. I felt in "withdrawl mode". After about 3 weeks I started feeling normal again. So glad I stopped. I had gained 10 lbs and have lost 6 of the 10 so far. Kuddos to your husband for steppin up!! Wish all men would!!! :0)

Thanks for the info. It's been a long time since I've had to deal with hormonal issues. Was your weight loss just something that happened or did you help it along? I am hoping that will be one of the good side effects. I just started my second period of the week, fun fun fun!! I am so thankfull that my hubby offered to take care of it. It was basically a piece of cake for him, except for the first couple of days.

Re: Just quit the pill after 20 years.....

Gainup, I just stopped taking the pill after 17 years. I am due to start my period next week if I were on the pill. I have not experienced headaches, I have experienced acne on my upper back. I also have dealt with cystic acne for many years on my back, but it got worse. I have been feeling severe pains in my stomache like daggers in my stomach as if I am ovulating maybe. I feel like my uterus is going to drop. I have been up and down with my mood with sadness not irritability. I also have battled HPV since 1994. I have been clear of any issues since 2005. I have smoked for 17 years too and my doctor would not refill my pill any longer unless I quit smoking for a full year. I am just a worry wart and feel like I should not have just stopped the pill, but what else do you do?

Re: Just quit the pill after 20 years.....

Gainup, I've been working out religiously for 2 years and didn't lose a darn thing. I didn't put two and two together until this year that I had gained 10 lbs after my doc switched me from Ortho tri Cyclen to Apri. I went from 118 to 128. I stopped in Feb and am now 122 lbs. I have 5 more to go and I'll be back to where I was. I stay at around 1400 cal a day and workout 3-4x a week but the weight didn't start to fall off until about a month after stopping the Apri. FYI I am 35. Ya know building a house could be part of your moodiness too!! Talk about stressful!! In combination with you stopping the pill... YIKES!! ;0) Hope everything turns out good for you and your family!!
