Asthma question

I am 17 years old and have had asthma ALL my life and threw out all 17 years of my life I have got switched from medicince to medicine about 15-20 times. I have been on abutorl, flovent, qvar 80, advair 250,asthmacourt,provental,
pulimair, advair 500,and singular all numerous times. No new meds have been prescribed and I keep going back to the same meds I have been on (of course not at the same time).

I am now on quvar 80, singular, and proair. The qvar 80 is 3 times a day and 2 puffs each time. The singular is once a day. The proair is as need, which is basically everyday. None of my current asthma meds are working and I am suffering everyday with wheezing, coughing, tightness in the cheast and just not up to speed at all.

At 17 years old I want to have fun and be young and just go out with freinds and enjoy the outdoors, but right now that is physicaly impossible for me to do. Does anyone know of anything that I can do to be a girl who wants to have fun and to be young without asthma and allergys for that matter of getting in my everyday life?

It's very sad to read your story...
I am 31. I got rid of asthma more than 15 years ago. Recently it came back, but I was able to recover without any medical intervention. I bought inhalers twice, but returned them to the store without even opening...
If you are tired of quick-fixes like quvar, singular, and etc. - and want to gain long-term health, we can continue.

Re: Asthma question

hey there,
i am 21 y.o and have had asthma all of my life too. and as like you, i have been a guinea pig trying different bronchodilators available with no help what-so ever. i live in australia, so my meds are prolly different to your, but at the moment i am taking seretide 250/25 mdi (strongest steroid available) 2 puffs twice a day, and using my ventolin reliever many times daily aswell. presently, i have a chest infection so am taking prednisolone and augmentin duo forte to get rid of the inflammation and infection, and have used the nebuliser a few times a day the past week.
have you been to see a respiratory specialist?? maybe you could ask your regular doctor to refer you to one. or even an allergist...this could determine what flares up your asthma (like all of us dust, pollens etc)
do you have any other problems? or social aspects for your asthma to be like this (i.e smoking?)
my older sister, who is 23 y.o has these same problems and there seems to be no light at the end of the tunnel for either of us!!
good luck hun,
love nic
