Question about possible placebo w/ concerta?

i just got a prescription of concerta for a.d.d. and have taken two to three 18 mg pills the past two days feeling no effects..i have taken adderall and i am aware of the effects and concerta has done nothing for me..do you think it is possible that the doctor prescribed me a placebo maybe due to suspicions possible or for any other reason?

I believe that if you are Above 13 years old then concerta wont help
you but may actually hurt you. So I hear.

^^
Interesting. I was thinking of giving Concerta a try.

Any idea as to why?? I thought it was merely an extended release ritalin.

I don't believe that doctors are allowed to prescribe placebos but I'm not sure.

I take Conerta 54mg and I don't feel much different. The only difference that I feel is that I am less tired throughout the day. Everyone else noticed the difference straight away, even those who didn't know I was taking any medication.

Some medications don't affect people at all where other medications will, you could just need a higher dose or a change in meds completely.

Concerta is more commonly used for adults then Ritalin. This is because Concerta is slow-release and lasts longer as adults tend to have longer days. Both Concerta and Ritalin are Methylphenidate so the risk of Concerta "hurting" someone is no more than Ritalin.

Re: Question about possible placebo w/ concerta?

Doctors don't generally prescribe placebos; but they do prescribe very low doses of a medication. A low dose of a stimulant may help with ADHD; and, in any case, stimulants work best if they're slowly increased in dose. The usual procedure is to start with a low dose and work up until either it's obvious the medication won't work, or it begins to work. Sometimes the low dose works by itself--either because the patient is very sensitive to the medication, because the ADHD is mild, or because of the placebo effect.

Think about it this way: your brain wants to be in balance; your body wants to be healthy. The power of the mind over the body is quite amazing. A placebo gives the mind an excuse to exert that power.
