Hi, ZOE:
I'm an EX-patient; the doctors did more damage than good. I have AS, which begins as bowel problems, but most people with AS remain asymptomatic with these for many years into their disease: I never would have believed that my disease was triggered by LGS or even that it was a form of arthritis (it just hurt too much).
I don't know which days Ebringer has office time at Kings College, he is now 'emeritus' status, but is always willing to help patients sort out what they have, with his advanced tools. He could refer you to his colleagues there, perhaps: Taha Rashid, Clyde Wilson, Teresa Ptaszynska, and Mark Fielder in the Division of Life Sciences, Infection and Immunity Group, Waterloo Campus, King’s College London, UK. Beyond that, I have Ebringer's contact information, but cannot give this out on this forum and we are also restricted from direct contact due to these policies, but you should be able to find out from what I have given.
If you are experiencing arthritic symptoms subsequent to bowel problems, there is a near-certainty that one or more of the over 20 identified as arthritogenic bacteria, fungi, and other bugs is causing the problem. You should first work to heal your gut, but also eliminate or reduce the specific species involved. Sometimes, these two goals cannot so easily be achieved, since things that repair the tract (yoghurt with live active cultures, vitD, vitC, niacin, vitE, glycine, lysine, okra, lychee fruit, colostrum, and GLAs). Some of these can aggravate the arthritis, like yoghurt, so this should be taken in limited amounts at first. These bugs can be like Dragon's teeth and it is important to find a good Slayer, along with starting the NSD (No Starch Diet) to Kick out the offending bugs.
Fasting helped me when NSAIDs nearly destroyed my tract, starting with my stomach right to the diverticuli--everything was involved with some sort of --itis and I fasted a total of 17 days, water-only. Not even one recurrence of ulcers in almost 20 years since, and only a slight flare-up (cryptitis) after eating contaminated food (contaminated with starch that I did not first test with iodine).
The people at Kings College are very good, and I hope that you can find relief soon, by whatever method you decide upon.
Cheerio,
John
