Addicted To Inhalers

My partner had suffered with asthma for nearly all of his life, but now only uses a salbutamol or ventolin inhaler to relieve a tight chest of wheezing. However he uses it about 3 or 4 times each day, and i think that he is actually just using it for the sake of it, beacause he feels his body needs it, rather than actually needing it to relieve his breathing.

Does anybody else who suffers from asthma feel that they are actually addicted to their inhalers?

any advice or info would be great!

Re: Addicted To Inhalers

He should be on a daily preventer med....no wonder he's using his rescue inhaler all the time! his asthma is not under control. Get him to a pulmonologist for a work up and regular meds.

Re: Addicted To Inhalers

Believe me i have tried to get him to his doctor but there is no reasoning with him, he would rather just use his reliever inhalers all the time. He is 29years old and his mother has had the same problem with trying to get him to go for years. He is meant to get an annual review, but hasnt gone for years as he knows they will prescribe daily inhalers because his asthma is not under control. i dont know why he doesnt want to use his preventer inhalers, Its his own life he is risking, but there is just no telling him! He thinks he knows best!
The reason i think that he is addicted asweel is because on holiday i kept his inhaler in my bag, and he hardly ever used it, but as soon as its just in sight on a table or something he picks it up all the time. i dont know what to do, I'm fed up trying to get through to him. Mayby one day he will get a shock if he has to be hospitalised!
