Tremors...need help!!!

I'm reposting this here because nobody responded to it in the brain and nervous system thread:

I get body tremors especially in my hands. My hands have been shaky since I was like 10 (I'm 23 now). They especially shake when I'm around people but even when I'm not they still do. I do have an anxiety disorder but medicines like Klonopin and Xanax don't help the tremors. Is there like a test (i.e. MRI, PET) that could show what's wrong? I've had a MRI brain scan once last year but nothing was abnormal according to the doctor. What can I do?

Thanks.

Re: Tremors...need help!!!

i believe this is called essential tremor and is passed on by heredity. it doesn't mean anything is wrong and the doctors who found nothing wrong should have told you so.

Re: Tremors...need help!!!

I agree with Bonzer; it is most likely essential tremor, which is a benign condition but which can definitely impact on your life.

Since it does seem to bother you, you should see a movement disorders neurologist. I don't know where in Pennsylvania you are, but there are good specialists both at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia and at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
