Anal Fissure ...PLEASE HELP..

This is my first posting so I want to say that its nice to see your not alone while going through some of these symptons.

I had surgery on May 16th to remove an anal fissure. After a few days I was back to work and feeling better. Its now exactly 2 months since my surgery and I still get a burning sensation that drives me crazy. Also , at times, it feels real itchy and swollen in that area.

My doctor said that this is normal and it can take months for you to actually heal fully. Is this true? Has anyone gone through this type of surgery before.
Maybe I was being a little naive but I thought once the surgery was over so were my troubles.

The actual pain that I get isnt as bad as the deep depression Im feeling.

PLEASE HELP...

Everyone heals differently, but as you can find on other threads anal fissures take a long time to heal. What type of surgery did you have? fissurectomy?

Yes, I had a fissurectomy and was in and out of the hospital in 4 hours. Felt sore for a few days but went to work 3 days later. I just cant seem to feel 100 percent. I go through a few days of feeling great and I think this nightmare is over and then out of no where and for what seems like no reason the burn comes back.

I'm guess what I'm looking for from the doctor is a time frame of when I'll be back to normal but I just dont seems to get that answer. Maybe there is no answer.

Thanks for replying

Re: Anal Fissure ...PLEASE HELP..

any type of surgery done down under needs time to heal, especially AF. AF is tricky to recovery because after the surgery you will have to watch what you eat all the time. one bad BM you will potentially tear it again.

when did you have your surgery? was your fissure resulted from hemorrhoidectomy?

As long you're not bleeding you're fine. Sounded like you're recovery really well, just a little patience....

Re: Anal Fissure ...PLEASE HELP..

I had my surgery on May 16th. Funny you should mention about a bad BM. I was feeling good for about a week and had a hard BM. After that it seems all of my pain started.
The doctor has me on Nifedipine cream that seems to sooth the area a little. Although I dont know what its for or the long term goal.
