had mastectomy last tuesday; I doing pretty good!

update: I had simple mast. on right breast. Went back for post op dr. appt. this morning and he removed the 2 drain lines! So glad those are gone; more of a hassle than painful. The 18 staples will come out this friday. I returned to work today. Still can't drive till probably next Monday. I go for appt. with oncologist so we can reschedule my chemo treatments(they of course were cancelled when I had to have the mast.)
I have looked at my chest and yes it is ugly but not sickening to look at like I thought it might be.
Good thoughts going out to all and many prayers to you; stay positive, ask questions, you will be surprised at the path of people you will come across with similar stories; share and don't be afraid to ask anything!
I tried on some wigs too! I know the chemo can be tough but so can I. I'm not trying to be super woman; I'm a very focused, faithful individual that had some body tissue that was sick and had to be removed; now we need to treat my body so other body tissue will not get sick.
happy trails,
kd
ps: I think having a close support system is a very key ingrediant to how one handles this situation. Don't ya'll agree?

Re: had mastectomy last tuesday; I doing pretty good!

Hi Kd,
So glad to hear you are doing well, you have an awesome attitude that is great. You sound like a strong person and you will do well through chemo. You might have some bad days but stay focused and you will get through it fine, We are all here for you if you have any questions about chemo, wig etc. So many people have helped me out. It is definately important to have a close support system. Just get on this forum and vent when ever you want. I felt the same way you do about my chest. It is ugly but I was fine with it. Take Care, recover quickly, my prayers are with you.

kd..you sound wonderful...we are strong....surviviors!!! One of my neighbors gave me a bc tshirt that says...fight like a girl! What was so amazing to me was the support from the people associated with the hospital. We have nurse navigators who are solely for bc surviviors. They still call. Just got back from my aunt's mast. She is 84 yrs. old. I think I helped her alot...I wanted to give back. You go girl!!!
