Anyone tried Avapro?

I started this ARB about 1 month ago. I feel bad most of the time anyway (various conditions), but was wondering if any of you have had any adverse reactions to it?

The Avapro, along with a beta blocker is doing a super job in controlling my BP and heart rate. I have never been able to tolerate any of the ARBs. Have tried 3 or 4 at least.

Thanks much for any information

Re: Anyone tried Avapro?

huckfinn,

Sorry I can't help much, I have not tried this one. Whose idea was it to have you try yet another drug in this class, given the experience you've had with several other drugs within this group> Sounds like some doctors (including mine) think that drug intolerance can be overcome if only the patient tries hard enough! When I went back to my doctor with all my allergy symptoms after a few days of taking 80mg of one of the ARBs, he doubled the dose to 160mg. Needless to say it was a total flop and a waste of fifty bucks.

After two failed attempts I''d feel very apprehensive about trying yet another drug from this class. My opinion: if you've had bad reactions to several drugs within the group, you should consider other classes of BP drugs.

Re: Anyone tried Avapro?

Hi I have tried this as Irbesartan and it made me feel not so good ie chest pain and indigestion also lot of calf pain. When I first started taking it I was fine but then felt very offish. My Dr has just taken me of it because of the chest pain.

Take care

Re: Anyone tried Avapro?

Flowergirl, I guess I would say that I am desperate to find a medicine for good BP control. Over the years, I became intolerant of ACE inhibitors. The doctor started me on the ARBs. I tried 3 or so. I really can't remember it has been so long. I (we?) need to log this info in a personal journal, as not to repeat the same mistakes. I have seen so many different cardiologist, that I cannot depend on one to track my medical history. Now I have a new doctor that I am going to stay with

Anyway, after no success with ACEi and ARBs, I was started on calcium channel blockers (CCBs) and took this med, in addition to a beta blocker, for about a year. The CCBs caused to much fluid retention.

I received my 5th coronary artery stent at the C. C. 2 months ago. ( I hope that I didn't violate any rules here) My super doc there wanted me off of CCBs. So here I am again back with the ARBs. Sorry for the "so long" story, lol.

I flew to Cleveland for this last stent. My new cardiologist is here in Alabama.

Thanks so much for replying to my post

Re: Anyone tried Avapro?

Hi Gail

Now I know we are speaking of the same medicine
As I said above, I feel bad lots of the times and part of it is pain in my legs and especially my calves. I had this before I started the Avapro, but it seems to be worse. I also notice a bit of chest pain that isn't due to angina, which I am so acquainted with It is a pain that is hard to describe, although it is not significant at this point.

I never have indigestion due to taking 40 mg of prilosec per day.

I always feel "very offish", so,,,,, I cannot blame that on the Avapro No, I do know what you mean and physically I do feel the same.

Thanks so much for replying
