Question Worried...

I had my hemorrhoidectomy and exteral skin tag excision on wednesday morning. I've been in a lot of pain since, so I've taken a lot of percocets. I also have been taking a lot of metamucil and miralax, and took some milk of magnesia yesterday, to no avail. I've still had no bowel movement, yet feel full of gas and like I have to go somewhat. I toook some more milk of magnnesia today, and it's been almost 6 hrs. and still nothing. what is going on? I'm pretty terrified of going, so is this somehow stopping me psychologically? I'm ready to take an enema, although i don't think that sticking anything in there is a good idea so soon after surgery.

Also, i took a look and it still looks like I have the skin flap there. Is it just swollen? I asked her after surgery if i looked good down there and she said I did, but I still see a tag. Does anyone know if this is swelling or what?

Re: Worried...

Are you drinking lots of water. That is the most important thing. Also the percocette will slow down your bowels. If you can you may want to cut back on them. Many people have luck with Miralax.

My skin tags were and are gone. It seems hemorrhoidectomy can sometimes create new tags. Some people swell more than others also.

Hang in there and try to relax. I know after my first bm my nerves played a part in future bms. However when its time to go its time. Good luck.

Re: Worried...

I am drinking lots of water, but it's harder for me to urinate than usual as well... I can only pee when my bladder is very full because of the pain. also, I can't seem to urinate on the toilet... I've been using a plastic jug thing that my father never used for his prostate surgery.

It's been at least 6 hours again since I took the milk of magnesia today and I haven't had to go yet. I'm about to cry from frustration. I've used that 2x, miralax 2x, and metamucil 2x... this is insane. I knew surgery wasn't gonna be a walk in the park, but I didn't expect this. I wish I knew what the tag thing was too... this makes me think my pain is not worthwhile, if I end up w/the tag after all this.

Re: Worried...

Hang in there.

Do you have the urge to poop? For me having the urge was the worst. I also had a hard time urinating. Many people recommend doing it in the tub. We were in the process of remodeling our bathroom when I had my surgery so no tub was available. Well my childrens tub was but I chose not to use it. I actually had to go to the ER almost 2 weeks out from my surgery because I was constipated and couldn't pee. I had alot of difficulty peeing. My doctor actually prescribed me some Flomax but I never got it filled. I would wash my hands and turn on the shower which is right across from my toilet. Listening and watching the water helped tremendously. You are still very early on so just hang in there.

Did they remove external or internal or both types of hemorrhoids? I had mainly external but he said he did remove some internal.

Re: Worried...

Thanks so much for the posts, sherri. I have nobody else to really talk to about this that understands!

I tried an enema but it hurt tooo badly to even insert it fully, so I used the phospho-soda stuff you drink and it finally worked. It was pretty hard thouogh, and i ended up busting a stitch. I still feel the urge to go slightly but am afraid to strain and bust another stitch open. I'm assuming I have to call my doc on Mon. and schedule something so she can restitch the part that opened? I'm gonna try and be a lot gentler from now on, and buy colace, which I hadn't been using.

I had 2 internals and many skin flaps stitched, but think it's the internals that are making me have so much pain. I'm very upset about the small protrusion I still have back there... maybe she left this part open for the wound to drain? I guess i need to call and find out.

I've also been turning on the water to pee, but still have to do it standing up... my butt hurts way too badly when I sit. The tub is really gross, and I can't take baths in there, so that's out of the question.
