spiro

Hi everyone,
I just wanted to know if I can some positive feedback. My derm started me on 100mg of spiro and I'm also on Ortho tri cyclen. I have been on BC for two months and spiro for three weeks. I know it can take 1 to 4 months to see results but what should I do to treat my acne in the meantime. I do not want to overdry my skin and cause cycstic acne. I cleanse with Purpose morning and spot treat with bp. At night I cleanse again with Purpose and apply
retin a micro at night (I only leave it on for a half hour). My skin is peeling and I'm afraid to use moisturizer. Those of you with positive results on spiro,
what is your skin routine. Also, do you have to wacth carefully what you eat.
I eat healthy food but I like to treat myself once in a while.
I appreciate any positive feedback!!!Thank you!!!

Re: spiro

I'd ask for an oral antibiotic such as Minocycline or Doxycycline. This will get you through the waiting period before Spiro kicks in. You could also ask for a topical antibiotic such as Clindamycin.

Re: spiro

So tiggerbuddy, you're saying that you should take antibiotics as well??? And it won't interfere. How long does spiro take to kick in?

Re: spiro

I ws taking Minocycline when I started taking Spiro. After about a month or two though, I stopped the Mino because it seemed as though the Spiro was working well. My doctor did not mention any problems with taking an antibiotic + spiro together, and I've read other stories of women taking both together. Spiro can often take 3-6 months to really work. IMO, an antibiotic is the perfect thing to take in the meantime to get you through this waiting period. If you don't like the idea of taking an oral antibiotic, you could also try a topical one like clindamycin. starting something like retin-a right now is also something to consider (it's got great skin benefits!), but with this there will most likely be an initial breakout. good luck!
