Morning HIghs

Taking 4 mg Amaryl in the morn and 2 mg at 4 pm.
Sugars are so high in the Am. This morn it was 16.9 or 294. How can I keep this from going up at night while sleeping. It seems to stay high until after 1 pm also. Then it starts to drop.
Is Amaryl a slow acting med? I think it is not working for me. I can not take Metformin, but was told it works better with it...HHHMMM

Do you think insulin at night would resolve this problem....HELP!!

Re: Morning HIghs

Different "tactics" are needed if you're high through the night, or steadily increasing, versus jumping suddenly in the last hour or two before waking.

I fly up only after 4 AM, this is almost impossible to control using shots (unless you wake up at 3 AM for a shot of fast-acting every day ). That needs a pump to control well. But if you're steadily rising through the night, are going up after dinner and staying there, then one or two shots of insulin might do a very good job.

Does your Endo plan to get reading through the night, either by loaning you a "continuous" monitor gadget for a few days or by having you wake up each hour one particular evening? If not, he's really only guessing at what to do. A smart guess is better than nothing, but it's not the BEST way to handle this situation (IMHO).
