Hi,
I've been meaning to post regarding your recent b/p increase.
Have you considered that your med. is possibly the problem? About two yrs ago, my b/p suddenly started to go up for no apparent reason. Believe me I went down my usual list: cuff anxiety etc. I had been taking this med for at least two yrs without any problems. Finally after two wks. I questioned the quality of the medication. I had just started a new bottle of tablets. I had noticed a change in the taste of the medication (I have to dilute my tabs in water so the taste is very apparent).
I went back to the pharmacy & asked if other pts were having the same problem with this med. No, said the pharmacy. No refund of course. So I requested med from another manufacturer. This pharmacy like most just have to take the manufacturer that their supplier provided.
So on to a 2nd pharmacy which is a small independent drugstore on Main St. They filled my Rx right away because of my situation. Took the new pills for several days with notchange in my b/p. My b/p med normally decreases my b/p right away because it is a short acting beta blocker. About the 3rd day, I poured out my pills & to my surprise there were several UNMARKED white pills. I generally always check to see the manufacturer's symbol & number on
my pills. I was shocked!!! I immediately went down to the pharmacy & showed them the plain white pills & asked what they were? The pharmacist was out so I had to deal with the Tech. I was afraid I might have already taken some of the unmarked pills. She didn't think this was a big deal.
I was astounded with her reaction. What if this med was something harmful to a particular person? So I had to leave & come back when the pharmacist was there. He was WORSE than the tech. He did not appologize or even made any amends-no refunds etc. I should have reported him to the Pharmacy Board.
Finally I found a 3rd pharmacy that had the capacity to request a different manufacturer for a particular drug. I had to call the manufacturer to make sure there were no ingredients in the drug that I would be allergic to (yellow dye #6 in particular).
The moral to the story is that we pts have to be sure the meds we are taking are not old (think that's what happen with the marked pills in the 2nd pharmacy). 20 20 has done at least two shows are this subject. Pharmacy techs often don't have the training for the enormous responsibility that they take on. Anyhow, we need to check to our pills etc for any change including how they work in our bodies.
On the show, there were several examples of our fake pills etc. are being
funneled into our local pharmacies. Lipitor is one of the biggest because it brings in the most money.
I hope your b/p will improve. Fam
