Exclamation Something most certainly wrong.

We've been treating it like the flu, but it's not going away had it for a week now. When I wake up in the morning I'm plagued with Shivers starting in my stomach area like a vibration and spreading out to my limbs and making my teeth chatter like I'm freezing, nausea accompanies this, my stomach and intestines are rumbling and grumbling, I'm belching a lot, dull centered headache, light-headedness. I'm sweating a lot at night. Almost fever like symptoms as well though we have no thermometer to check.

The shivers slowly go away as the day progresses slowly as does the nausea, however if I try and eat something the nausea returns for awhile. By late day I usually feel halfway decent, then the whole process starts over the next day. I'm getting scared.

I'm drinking lots of water and trying to eat something now an then as when the nausea goes away I do get hungry but as I said after I eat the nausea returns.

I have no medical insurance and I work only as a part time work study at my college, I don't have money to be going to doctor, so unless it's something very bad I can't be going there on a whim. Can anyone help me figure out what this is.

Hi Melneedshelp. Flu-like symptoms in the summer should be suspect of Lyme disease. Lyme disease is a mutli-system bacterial infection caused from the bite of an infected tick.

Below is a Lyme symptom list. You can have any combination of symptoms.

Unexplained fevers, sweats, chills, or flushing
Unexplained weight change--loss or gain
Fatigue, tiredness, poor stamina
Unexplained hair loss
Swollen glands
Sore throat
Testicular pain/pelvic pain
Unexplained menstrual irregularity
Unexplained milk production: breast pain
Irritable bladder or bladder dysfunction
Sexual dysfunction or loss of libido
Upset stomach
Change in bowel function-constipation, diarrhea
Chest pain or rib soreness
Shortness of breath, cough
Heart palpitations, pulse skips, heart block
Any history of a heart murmur or valve prolapse?
Joint pain or swelling
Stiffness of the joints, neck, or back
Muscle pain or cramps
Twitching of the face or other muscles
Headache
Neck creeks and cracks, neck stiffness, neck pain
Tingling, numbness, burning or stabbing sensations, shooting pains
Facial paralysis (Bell's Palsy)
Eyes/Vision: double, blurry, increased floaters, light sensitivity
Ears/Hearing: buzzing, ringing, ear pain, sound sensitivity
lncreased motion sickness, vertigo, poor balance
Lightheadedness, wooziness
Tremor
Confusion, difficulty in thinking
Difficulty with concentration, reading
Forgetfulness, poor short term memory
Disorientation: getting lost, going to wrong places
Difficulty with speech or writing
Mood swings, irritability, depression
Disturbed sleep-too much, too little, early awakening
Exaggerated symptoms or worse hangover from alcohol

When Lyme disease is a possibility, it is very important to see a knowledgeable doctor. Many doctors do not understand Lyme and treat with outdated protocols. No test is completely reliable, and results can vary by lab.

Besides Lyme, ticks can also transmit several co-infections including Babesiosis, two types of Ehrlichiosis (HME & HGE), Bartonella, and Mycoplasma. It is estimated that 60% of people who have Lyme are co-infected. It may affect treatment choice and progress. It is important to be tested for these by a Lyme reputable lab such as IgeneX in Palo Alto, CA.

The co-infection Babesiosis can cause many of the symptoms you describe. Night sweats are one of the hallmark symptoms of Babesiosis.

If you think this may be a possibility and would like a doctor recommendation, let me know.

I hope you feel better soon.

Re: Something most certainly wrong.

does the college have a health center you can go to? my college gives free help to anyone even if they are only part time. i really think you need to see a doctor. i dont really have any ideas as to what you would have. i would go out and buy a thermometer and if you have a temperature go to the ER or Urgent Care at a cilinic. they cannot refuse to treat you and can work out payment plans. i sincerely hope you feel better.

Re: Something most certainly wrong.

It is most likly a stomach flu or virus. But it could be something major, but i would bet money if you did see a doctor they would tell you to rest take it easy and drink alot of water, i would consult a ID doctor if this persits longer than two weeks, or if your fever goes above 103 or if you jusrt feel like something is really wrong or feel like passing out, You have night sweets and i'm 90% sure your infected with something. Antibiotics may even be a big help.

Please get a thermometer to check your temp and you can use Tylonal to lower your temp, but if it gets twio high ***** could be 103 for you, you can damage your heart valves and heart it's self and many other organs. It's not worth doing that just to save some money,

Re: Something most certainly wrong.

I broke down finally after having it too long and went ahead with my pay check and made an appointment with the doctor.

He believes that the problem is some severe acid reflux disorder. He says all my symptoms can be caused by it and I have a history of acid reflux issues (I've been plagued with it for a couple years now, in the past it's been so bad I've woken up in the night suffocating on acid reflux) he gave me 30 days of free samples of a prescription drug Prontonix (since I don't have insurance) and I had to go buy some stuff called Carafate which I have to take before every meal and before I go to bed. I'm hoping he is right in this regard and this is the problem. I have a follow up visit in 3 weeks to see how I'm doing. I only started taking the pill last night, so it's probably not in effect too much yet but I was able to eat without getting nausea thanks to the carafate yesterday before meals. This morning I still have the shivers though that are slowly subsiding as usual, but no real nausea with them and more proof to his claim I belched this morning and it brought up some acid to my throat (felt it burn).

Just thought I'd let anyone reading know and the chance someone else with a similar symptoms reads this.
