I was diagnosed in May 1998; but my first symptoms appeared in 1973. I was 25 years old. I am now 52--the mother of 2 daughters and 5 grandchildren. I'm not sure how mine started, I think mine was a case of just something that evolved over time. My life is very stressful--my oldest grandson (6) was born with spina bifida and my son-in-law walked out on them when he was 6 months old. My youngest grandson has Kallman's Syndrome and cannot smell or taste anything, plus he is deaf in one ear. My youngest granddaughter was born 4 to 7 weeks early just 2 weeks ago and only weighed 4 lbs. 5 oz. She is so small, but in good health it seems. My husband was on a heart transplant list until July 2000 when he got a new heart. When my dad died in 1989 it really hit me hard. It took me approximately 5 years to be able to talk about him without breaking down. In June 1999 my husband and I were in an auto accident just 7 houses down from our driveway. A young guy pulled out in front of us to make a lefthand turn and we had no where to go except into his car. I had so many bruises and was so sore afterwards. Not sure if it aggravated my symptoms or not--hard to tell since I was already in PT 3 times a week. Other than that and the fact that I have this dreaded FMS, I am OK.

I was diagnosed with FM over 3 years ago, but had been under treatment for 2 years before that when I was 35. I am now 40.

I had problems for many years before I sought treatment, and believe that part of the impact on the start of my FM was my last pregnancy at age 27, and a virus I had a year after I gave birth. The entire back of my head swelled up with infection to the point that I could not lay down because of the pain and I could not turn my head. I took some very powerful antibiotics and the next day I had the worst fever and cold symtoms that I had ever had. I thought I was gonna die. The next day it was as if I had not been sick at all and the swelling was gone from my head and neck. They never did find out what the infection was from in my glands, but it was a doozy.

Hi everyone and Happy Holidays! I was 16 or 17 when this all started. I am now 44. My husband was in his late teens he doesn't ewmember exactly, he is now 46. We both have been in car accidents and that is when he got really bad. A positive diagnosis was 99 but, a possiblity in 96. Because it was not just one of us, but a couple, they found that hard to believe. But, not when we went to different specialist and wre then given the FMS cloud for sure. Our primary doc doesn't belive in it and told me for years it's a virous or flu or you must have injured youself w/o knowing it. What a crock. Goodwishes to all, Kim
