Has anyone gone from brand name Florinef to generic?

Well if you are not aware, brand name Florinef is no longer going to be made.
Talked to the manufacturer and it seems that there are so many generics out there, that insurance companies are not paying for it so they are no longer going to make the brand. (not good timing considering I finally get to go back to work on Monday and now my central medication is changing.)

For most, not a big deal, for me.......... Let's just say generic medications do not go well.

I started today, an hour after taking medication I felt a little of the floor move as I walked. Made the mistake of going to an hour long step aerobics class thirty minutes later, and needless to say don't remember it happening, but I somehow fell and ended up on the floor. (nothing broken or seriously injured except the ego)

Have any of you expericenced difficulty switching from brand to generic?
Hopefully I will adjust. I have had 6 really really good months with 35 pounds of weight loss. My only complaint the teeth. I have to have another root canal on Friday. If I am not better tomorrow, I am going to postpone.

Re: Has anyone gone from brand name Florinef to generic?

KMatthew,

I have never been on the name brand, only the generic for just over a year now. My dosage has to be between 0.15 - 0.20 to rid me of the constant dizzyness. There are (at least) 2 generics out there and I go to a different pharmacy than for my other meds in order to get the oblong yellow one that's easier to break in half than the round white (both are scored).

Your post makes me wonder if I should have been on the name brand while it was available. If you've been able to do an hour-long step aerobics and I don't have the physical stamina for it (I'd find myself shaky-weak on the floor after 5-10 minutes), it makes me wonder where my meds are out of balance. Over the past 2 months I've been able to gradually build up to 10 minutes light exercise bike and 20 minutes walking in the evening... but nothing vigorous like what you've been able to do.

Re: Has anyone gone from brand name Florinef to generic?

It has taken me since February to be able to work out like that. I usually do an hour of step and then do about 30 minutes of weights. Have you had your thyroid checked and do you take cortef as well? I am also on 30mg of that per day.

Re: Has anyone gone from brand name Florinef to generic?

Thanks kmatthew. Yes, I'm on 180mg Armour thyroid, 45mg cortef, 0.15 fludro, 120mg pregnenolone, plus sublingual (spray) DHEA... on the high end of all of those, from what I can tell, but still at the edge of fatigue and certainly lack of stamina. Still trying to build that, but slowly. I overdid it the last couple of days and was unable to push the exercise biking this morning. But our daughter is going to "take the dad for a walk" and when we get back, that'll be it for the day. Just trying to be consistent and slowly build as-can. Thanks.

Wish I'd have known if brand-name florinef would have worked better for me, but I guess I'm too late for that. Thanks for the news. Having taken generic all along, I wouldn't have known. It's a shame what the pharmaceutical companies can get away with, just attending to their own bottom line.

I am not familiar with several drugs you are taking. Have you ever tried synthriod?
Seems like you are on a lot of cortef.

I am better today. I think I am just adjusting.

Supposed to have a root canal in the am hopefully I won't be sorry.

I agree drug companies are INFURIATING!!!!!!!!!!
