Unhappy Seasonique and mood swings

OK, I used the search feature and found some helpful info but I wanted to just get my situation out there and for someone to tell me I'm normal!

I was on Ortho Evra patch for about 2 1/2 years and I loved it! It was easy to remember once a week, no more pain, lighter periods, it was amazing! Until the pain in my legs and breathing problems started... I did some research and talked to my doctor and decided I needed to get off it. So I looked around and liked Seasonique. 4 periods a year? Heck yes! So I'm at the start of week 4, no problems remembering to take it, 7:30am everyday like clockwork (well phone work, i set my cell). I have a problem remembering to take my vitamins so I've been taking special care to take the pill everyday. First week was okay, still adjusting and it was during my period. But the last 2 weeks, I've been a raging psychotic b****! I've been up and down with my moods, crying and pissed off at the world one day, happy as a kitten the next. I go from loving my boyfriend to wanting to break up because he didn't call... It's crazy! He's so understanding and knows this pill is the best for me but I can't keep feeling like this! A girl here at work has been on it for little over 3 months and said the first month she was really moody and PO'd at the world, but it got better.

Does this happen to most people? I am really thinking about changing, that's how awful I feel! Even my dad is concerned that I will push my boyfriend away and my dad is just now starting to like him! Please help! Anyway, tell me if you had these symptoms and if they went away or what I should do! I'm going to talk to my gyno as soon as I get an appointment but that may take a month to get me in... any advice?

take care,
Kimmy

Re: Seasonique and mood swings

Hi, Kimmy -

All birth control pills deplete B vitamins, thus the moodiness, depression, etc., so changing pills probably won't help you. Instead, try taking a B complex vitamin every day, this should help. I had depression while taking Brevicon (similar to Ovcon) and the B complex really helped me. Good luck.

Re: Seasonique and mood swings

When I first started the pill, I had the same emotional symptoms you just described but I was on Mircette. I've spent the past 2.5 years blaming Mircette and praising Desogen which I'm on now and love, but I think it's just a common side effect of pills in general. I won't even get into how tumultuous my new relationship was for the 5 months or so I was on Mircette.

Give yourself some time to adjust. It's harder than it sounds but might pay off.

Re: Seasonique and mood swings

I had severe mood problems while on Seasonale, same thing as what you're taking, pretty much. Mine got so bad I had to quit. I completely disagree with "sticking it out", because I think that if you're as miserable as i was, and it sounds like you are, then don't put up with it anymore! Find something else that won't make you feel like such crap! It's not worth it to torture yourself and I don't think people should advocate that you do that to yourself.

Trust me, this brand is among one of the worst ones out there for mood issues and severe depression, the likes of which requires medical intervention.
