how I cured my asthma

I used to have severe asthma. I was on prednisone, azmacort, proventil, etc. I had my own nebulizer and was hospitalized on a regular basis for severe, life-threatening attacks. My lungs collasped twice. Extreme cold and hot weather and exercise brought on a severe attack. I tried every new med that came out on the market and was so desperate I was thinking about taking experimental asthma drugs. I was given an extensive allergy test. All they came up with was that I had allegies to pet dander, dust mites, and pollen.

Today, I am asthma free! I haven't had an attack in years. I run three a day five days a week without a problem. I no longer take any asthma medication. Extreme hot or cold weather don't bother me at all. This is how I did it. I eliminated all dairy and soy from my diet. No cow's milk, no soy milk, no ice cream, no yougurt, no cheese, cottage cheese, etc and absolutely no MSG (Accent). I started eating more leafy greens and plenty of fruit, started drinking black tea Pomegranite juice and began walking. Black tea and pomegranite juice all full of antioxitants and do wonders for the lungs!

If you have severe asthma and are at your wits end, I beg you to try this. What do you have to lose. How something so simple got past the many doctors and breathing experts I saw over the years is beyond me. Also, to get your daily recommended calcium, it is important to eat other foods rich in calcium and not rely on supplements. Eating a milk chocolate bar or somehting like that is not a problem. The small amount of milk in such things is negligible. Rice milk is a great alternative to cow or soy milk. You can also cook with it. Good luck!

"What Do I have to lose" by following your suggestion...how about my life. A smart move on my part would be to ask my doctor about your suggestion and do research on it before even trying it. Breathing is a wonderful to have and a terrible thing to lose.

Re: how I cured my asthma

I don't think that Gigi was suggesting that you stop your meds. She was merely suggesting a change in diet and if that were to work than maybe eventually the meds could be eliminated.
I for one have no problem with milk products -- they don't seem to affect my asthma one way or the other. I can drink whole milk, eat cheese, etc. and feel well and then at some other time develop symptoms for no apparent reason.
Asmanex seems to work well with a minimum of side effects -- at least for me. Of course osteoporosis can be insidiously creeping up!!
What to do -- as you say -- one needs to breathe. it's a matter of trying different approaches and finding what works best for you.

Apparently you found the allergen responsible for your asthma. Great ! Unfortunately everyone is different and there is no single cause.

Re: how I cured my asthma

Yeah, we all have different allergies, and other different medical conditions. As well as different genetics.. so it could be hard to know exactly what food you may need to improve your asthma.. unlike with heart conditions.. its all generally the same diet. Like I also have Celiac, where I cannot absorb my vitamins. So healthy diet sometimes does nothing for me. Makes me worse. And talking pills also does nothing... but eliminating gluten, (which is hard for me to do) allows me to absorb vitamins.

But I really am at my end with this I’m just getting worse and worse, not better and better

asthma, diabetes, seizers and neurological disorders.. and heart problems are the worst things to have. And all need to be controlled with healthy diet. And all need meds as well.. like Just because you have a heart condition, doesn’t always mean that is because you ate badly.. but food can really help improve it, and same with exercise. and diabetes, YOU HAVE to eat well and take your meds, with type 1 diabetes, you will die if you only do one, and not the other. almost all of the above, if you have bad enough, eating a healthy diet, can really lesson the symptoms, even give you a longer life. Except asthma? Well why not?

So I think just because of that... I’m tired of going to the doctors and getting stronger meds, I have had asthma for 20 years, and I’m tired of needing to take more and more meds. I’m now at the point where if I have an asthma attack and I take my emergency puffer, after 3 puff’s, sometimes 4 and waiting... it does nothing for me. I still can’t breath... medicine is losing its power... before I would have an asthma attack, take my puffer, and be well after just one min of taking the meds... it was amazing... but now its just enough to keep me breathing (just barly) to get myself to the hospital.

So I’m going to try it.. I have nothing to lose... what once was an “asthma attack” is now the way I breath normally. I’m very lucky if I can get one day where I don’t wheeze all day. Just so people know... just because you take your meds every day, if you still continue with any kind of unhealthy lifestyle. You’re not going to improve, you many only get worse and worse. So I think your post is very helpful. I think more of us need to see our body as a whole.

no milk products... that will be really really hard for myself... the black tea pom juice sounds yummy i could do that easy... how much do you drink a week? I would drink it once in a blue moon. And walking... I really need to do more of that. It really helps with the heart, and the stronger the heart is, the more O2 you can get circulating your body. My big fear, is if you can’t breathe, and you don’t get enough O2, because you can’t breathe, you organs (tissues) start to die.. after 3 mins of not enough O2, in the body... your tissues start to die. Your brain, that’s the scariest one.. how much of my body is damaged by my asthma? How much of my asthma is worse because of my body? I see the cycle.... I’m gonna try this and see what I can improve. How long were you doing this before you started to see results?
