advice needed please

Hi all,
Im posting on behalf of my father who is very worried at the moment, but cant get to the docs as he is out of the country.
He had a TRUS biopsy 2 weeks ago and is still waiting on results> he was given a weeks course of antibiotics (which has now finished).
The main problem is he is passing blood on urination (which wasnt a symptom before the procedure).
Does anyone know if this is normal or should be be seeking medical attention?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The biopsy causes trauma. Just a little blood in the urine looks like a lot. I am not an MD - just a guy who has been down this road. This happened to me as well - after about 2.5 weeks it cleared - I was very sore after the procedure.

Re: advice needed please

lindsalou,

A needle biopsy will frequently cause bleeding (fresh red blood) from the urethra but it should clear up long, long before two weeks go by.

A biopsy may cause blood in his ejaculate for weeks. If he's on a drug for BPH (like Flomax) that causes retrograde ejaculation, that could be the cause of blood in the urine.

I've been there, but I'm no doctor. He (or you) should describe his symptoms to his doctor and let the doctor tell him if it's a problem.

BTW, two weeks is a long time to wait for biopsy results.

Best of luck!

Re: advice needed please

Thank you so much for your replies,
Im going to speak with my dads gp tomorrow to see what hes opinion is.
Two weeks is a long time to wait for his results, but we here in england have to rely on our NHS, which isnt the quickest in the world, he was told it can take up to four weeks for results to come back, which isnt good as as im sure you can appreaciate and he is very worried (as we all are).
Fingers crossed,
Thank you once again for your input.
