Hydrocephalus Help anyone with experience.

My 5 month old daughter's head was looking a little crooked to me & her neck did too.
Well people told me not to worry it was just from the way she would lay or the way she was positioned in the womd & that it would straighten out as she got older.
When I took her to get her shots & checkup I brought it to the Doc's attention.
I was told that her head had grown a little fast since her last checkup & her head size was in the 95 percentile.
He was also concearned cause her soft spot was bulging out, which I did not even notice.

He asked me questions about her being sick, She did have a few colds that I remember, but she did not seem seriously ill.

He asked me about infections when I was pregnate. Yes I had a really bad case of strep throat which led to a infection in or becide my lungs like a fluid filled something I cannot remember, I just remember it was very painful.

I also had group B strep but was treated with antibiotics in Labor.

My baby girl has to have X-rays on her neck & spine & a ultrasound on her head Tuesday.

He is worried she has Hydrocephalus caused by infection or spinal problem.

Has anyones child here had this?

My daughter seems normal in development & ahead in some things. Should I worry about future development. Has anyone had this & still developed normally?

What do I have to look foward to? Also I was told the soft spot sticking out is a definate sign there is preassure on her brain. I have been crying for 2 days.

What are the chances she could die? What are the chances for normal development. Will she suffer a lot? Is she hurting now?

Please someone help me understand. Someone that has been thru this. Is your child normal now?

Re: Hydrocephalus Help anyone with experience.

I just found your post... have you found anything out yet? I'm sorry I don't have any experience or advice... just a similar situation.

My son is 9 months old. He has had a flattened head and crooked neck (torticollis) since he was about 2 months old. We've been constantly told with minor exercises it would adjust or round out as he started being more mobile. It has not improved. At his 9 month appt his head size measured 97%. Up from 90%. We had an US on his head on Monday which showed enlarged ventricals. So tomorrow (9/20) we are having an MRI done. They have not told us what to expect or what could be the cause... so I'm scaring myself horribly by reading things online. I also was Group B strep positive but had multiple doses of antibiotic during labor so I assumed everything would be okay.

Good luck to you! Please write back if you've heard anything or have any advice.

Cynthia
